Wanted cb500 engine in working order. The closer location to Bedale, North Yorkshire or Hull, East Yorkshire the better!

Re: Engine
I've already checked ebay, just seeing if anyone on here had one spare... as you do... The electrode of the sparkplug and most of the thread has disappeared and the rest is inside of the plug and presumably the engine too. So the piston will be fucked as well the valves and the head. Oh well I guess I'll have some shims to donate to the form shim collection ect

Shims are always welcome in the exchange James, but sorry to hear about your engine.

Are these good prices for an engine?

Re: Engine
They're good prices if the engines are good. Sadly experience has taught me that you get what you pay for in these situations. If you have the ability to rebuild yours then it would be the best option, in a cost/benefit way of looking at it.

Re: Engine
I'm going to get an engine from boonstra parts as it's about £180 POSTED!!! I'm going to run this to keep the bike on the road, I know they're missing some parts but I think all should be well and good since I have a couple of now dead engines to borrow things off.
I'm going to rebuild my engine depending upon if the bore is damaged and then I'll go from there.

Re: Engine
You can't really argue with 180 quid inc postage from Holland! Assuming it works
If you ever get to take the old one apart I'd be interested to see the photos from inside!

You know, the garage that I take the bike to for things that are too out of my depth have said the same thing, they're really interested in what it looks like inside the same as me. I might video it and put it on the tinterwebs

Re: Engine
Many years ago, a nut dropped out of the k&n filter, straight through the weber & manifold into my Capri combustion chamber - made a hell of a racket as it rattled between piston & cylinder head. I figured the only option was a full rebuild & took the engine out. When I took the head off, I found the nut had welded itself to the piston crown & it probably would have run happily for another 50,000 miles. Still, now I'd started, I might as well go for an overbore, high lift cam & rejetted weber.......
