cheap ebay shocks
hello, the title of this thread probably answers my question.
I was wondering if anyone has tried the following shocks on their ??
unfortunately I'm new so can't post a link, but stick this item number into ebay 220983316177
they seem to be a great price and his feedback is very good, seems cheaper then the hagons!

Hi Alan,
I fitted the exact same pair to my CB500 at the weekend and they seem OK. One difference I have noticed is that they seem to be about 5mm longer than the originals I removed which means that the chain is occasionally touching the centre stand. I can fix this by making the stop below my silencer a little thicker then all will be well.
They are not Hagons but for the price they seem pretty good and the ride is much better than with the knackered ones I took off! They look smart too.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi guy's
Let me know if they are any good, Steve you say they are longer is that total ? I have mine on the highest setting I use my cb500 two up a lot & have full luggage. But I'm in need of new shocks.

Hi fryatuck,
When I compared the old one with the new one I could see no real difference in length but as I fitted it I noticed that there was a difference. Admittedly I had the original ones on setting 4 and the new ones were on setting 1 which could account for some of the difference.
However, when I got both on and tried to spin the rear wheel, it is touching the ground slightly so I would say the new ones are longer. I have now set the new ones on setting 4 but they are still longer.
I have also had to buy a rubber door stop and bolt that to the silencer so that the centre stand doesn't fold up as far so that the chain doesn't clank against it when hitting London's lovely potholes.
I must say that the ride is much better than when I had the old ones on, so I am happy and they look much nicer than the rusty ones I took off.
If I could have afforded Hagons then I would have bought some but for a cheap set, the ones advertised are perfectly fine. I have bought some ACF-50 to coat the new ones so that they don't rust like the originals.
Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve,
It looks like they are my next purchase, as mine have a slight leak and are very rusty can be quite bouncy too ,,, lol

Hi Fryatuck,
I think you will be more than pleased with them and they will certainly improve the ride compared with leaky rusty ones!
By the way I managed to change the right one without taking the silencer off but then I have a Fuel end can which might leave more room than the standard one.
Be sure to do one side at a time and put something under the wheel to stop it falling down when you remove the first shock. It took me about 30 minutes in total to remove the necessary bodywork and replace them.
Have you got a Haynes manual as this explains how to remove the seat and rear plastic?
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Martin,
Good luck with it all ... I'm sure you 'll sort it out! If you know the manufacturer of the end can perhaps they would be the place to start asking about link pipes.
I would recommend the Fuel end can if you can find the reddies and you get a discount for being a member of this forum ... 10% I think!
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Martin,
Sorry for the delay in writing - been away for the weekend though sadly not on the bike.
Yes it has a lovely tone and a removable baffle if you want extra volume. Haven't tried it without the baffle yet as I rather like it with it in. Nice and deep rumble but not going to cause people to go "tut"!

Steve

Martin.
Re: cheap ebay shocks
Hi,
Would be good if you could post a review of the shocks once they've been on a month or so. I need new shocks for the summer but really can't afford Hagons at the moment. I've sifted through the ebayer's feedback and it all seems very good.
Have a good easter everyone.
Mike

Hi Mike,
Shocks turned up this morning and look good Quality
They also look better than my rusty leaky ones
I couldn't afford Hagons shocks at all,, not until winning numbers come up, then I think the CB will be just a winter bike.
will let you know how the shocks are after have given them a run for a while maybe after the weekend, should have put some miles on them by then hehehehe !!!!!!!!
Regards
Martin
Re: cheap ebay shocks
That'll be great. Mine are very rusty and i've never adjusted them since i've had the bike in case it causing a leak or something.

Hi mikeh,
I've had mine on now for about three weeks and I commute 200 miles a week in and out of London and I am finding the handling excellent after installing the new shocks.
I have set them at the number 4 setting and this copes with the bumps very well. I weight around 12 stone and the shocks do not bottom out even on the very bumpy country roads I ride on once I am off the motorway.
The shocks look very nice (black springs instead of chrome) and I have coated them with ACF50 to hopefully stop any rust forming.
I am sure that Hagons are better as they cost twice as much but for the price, the ebay shocks are great. They will almost certainly be better than old stock shocks that have rusted and might be leaking!
Cheers,
Steve

Re: cheap ebay shocks
I like the Spare hour comment lol,
I had to almost remove the Exhaust to change the right hand side shock,
took a bit longer than an hour here

Re: cheap ebay shocks
Nah! They are tricky to wiggle off the top mount but doable in an hour with dropping the exhaust!

Re: cheap ebay shocks
It took me longer because I had to remove my Givi wingrack first,
Have to remove it before I can remove rear plastics.
