Bodge fixes
Hi Everyone
I thought it would be interesting to know what bodges people have done to get them out of the brown stuff!
A few years back I replaced the oe exhaust with a motad. About two years ago it came detached at the flange (rusted through from the inside ) and I needed something to get me going. Out came the beer cans & exhaust bandage!
It held pretty well until I got the replacement system for it!

Re: Bodge fixes
Blimey, where to start?
* How about the 'mole grips used as a gear lever' (late 70's on a T500 Suzuki twin)
* Or, indeed, mole grips being used as a throttle lever on a broken throttle cable (mid 70's, Jawa 350)
* Nail as a fuse (er...more than one over the years)
* Nail used as a chain link (mid 70's, FS-1E - not mine)
* Coke can as an exhaust repair, similar to above. (mid 80's in Israel on a Suzuki 650 Katana)
* Or (and I challenge anyone to top this!), fence wire cut into tiny sections, rounded off with a file and used as wheel bearings (1986, Yugoslavia, Suzuki GS1000). We didn't have any spare grease, so we used a mixture of feta cheese and engine oil.
It lasted until we got to a Suzuki agent in Northern Greece...

Brilliant! I'd love to have seen a photo of that! Funny you mentioned the mole grips, I carry some under the seat as well

Re: Bodge fixes
Unfortunately there aren't any pic's of (specifically) that. Shame really, as I regard that as one of my (actually it was a joint effort - there were three of us) finest hours.
And as we were considered three of England's Finest Bodgers at the time, that was some accolade...

Clutch cable trick....
Not in the league of the wheel bearings from wire fencing but my clutch cable went when I was in the middle of nowhere. So I bodged it by removing the whole cable from the outer sheath and re-routed it to create a lever system between the house brick sized rock I found in the woods and the base of my tank (I used my high vis to protect my tank). Managed to ride the 20 miles home with minimum gear changes and a bit of one-handed riding!!
But I think the mole grips would certainly have been a better bet. Going to put some under the seat tonight.
