Bike wont start...
Im having trouble with my bike, last time i used it was about two months ago, the bike was flat then and wouldnt start, just got clicking noise, so i charged up and it was fine. Now when i turn on the ignition, the oil light comes on, nuturel comes on, but when i press the start button, there is nothing, no clicking, its like the switch is not working, ive tried fully charging the battery and stil nothing. Where do i start with the switch? which fuse do i check, and where is the relay located if that needs changing? thanks for any help

Re: Bike wont start...
It might be that the fuse to the starter relay is blown, although this is unlikely.
You will find the fuse for this in a cover on top of the relay itself (behind right hand side panel and beside fuse box).
Is the battery holding enough charge to start the bike? It could have been damaged when it went fully flat.
It could be the interlock switches that prevent the bike starting in gear with the side stand down also.

Re: Bike wont start...
Are you sure the battery is ok? May be worth running jump leads to a car battery and trying again.
Other than that you've got the side stand switch as mentioned which you could temporarily bypass and the clutch switch which again you could bypass. Stick a meter on the starter relay to see if any juice is getting there when you press the starter.

its so easy to start panicking and get all flustered, been there. just follow the advice about using car battery,it has loads more kick. check sidestand, clutch.if it still dont turn over at all, suggest starter could be stuck.try tapping it hard then have another go.easy stuff first my friend, and very good advise from the lads

Dave, I had the problem with the starter being stuck but obviously the solenoid still clicked, so as he's not getting a click I'd say it probably isn't a starter issue

Re: Bike wont start...
found the problem it was the kill switch! not that it was switched on, but i flickrf it off on on a few times , it stil wouldnt start, then i pushed down on it really hard and it worked! so im guessing theres a loose connection in there some where will prob have to take it apart if it keeps playing up?

Re: Bike wont start...
Could just be gunge in the switch or a little bit of corrosion on the contacts in there.
Either way, good to hear it wasn't something expensive or difficult to repair

..........good news you found the problem!
unscrew the screws holding the bar switch - carefully!
and give it a blast of WD40
then wait a while then clean - gently - all you can get to,
that will clean out the button & works.
use a small softish brush if you can.

Re: Bike wont start...
I was stopped at a traffic light today and bike just died, no response from starter button, but horn worked. Flicked key off and on, flicked kill switch off and on, bike started. Last corner before my garage and bike died again. Flicked kill switch off and on and bike started. Was getting on here to diagnose and saw this post, so thanks from me, too for tips to sort it.

I had a similar issue with my kill switch - the bike cut out if I gave the handlebar a sharp tap.... the kill switch was full of green corrosion and other crap, once it was cleaned out there wasn't a problem any more.

Re: Bike wont start...
Hi
I've been having similar problems for the past 5 or 6000 miles and still not managed to work out what's wrong. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it works after a couple of seconds. It's obviously part of the interlock system but I've never actually worked out if it's the sidestand switch, neutral switch or kill switch and at different times, different actions seems to clear it. The simple answer (for me at least) is to SIMPLY PULL IN THE CLUTCH and the starter works every time. Shouldn't have to as it's almost always on the centrestand and in neutral but until I've sussed it I'm happly to exercise my left hand!
