Hi, so I've recently joined this forum although don't currently own a cb500. I am however on the hunt for one. I was hoping to pick on up fairly cheap, close to £500 maybe. Does anyone think this is possible to get something relatively decent for that kind of cash? Any advice on where to look would be good to. Thanks

Yeah it's possible. A mate of mine bought a '96 (last rear drum model, first of the Italian built machines) with 91,000 miles on it. It looked horrendous and had the usual clutch basket rattle. Starts first time and runs sweet as a nut - the engine feels revvier and more sprightly than my 16,000 mile, identical vintage machine. All for £300, with some MOT and rent.

The thing with CB500's - if it sounds alright (clutch aside) and goes alright, it is alright.

Mine cost about 550 quid (admittedly a few years ago) but was in a bit of a 'tatty' state. It had done 49,000 miles - nothing wrong with it mechanically.

It could have been cleaned up into a 'nice' bike - I haven't done that but it still works fine.

So, as far as I can see, you can probably get one for 500 quid and there is a good chance it will go OK, it just may not look the best and will have probably done a few miles.

Thankfully the CB500 is *designed* for eating up the miles, so you shouldn't have a problem.

Good luck...
