OE Honda luggage rack
Hi there
I managed to pick up from a car boot an OE luggage rack. Problem is, it never had the spaces with it for fitting.
Looking at the pic above, can any one tell me the size of the spaces required please.
I dont see the point in the one labelled #8.
However #6 is critical in making the luggage rack secure.
Your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

Re: OE Honda luggage rack
I will send a pic and measurements tomorrow if noones got back to you, I've just removed my rack.
They are approx. an inch wide (size of hole), 20mm long, and have space for an 8mm thread bolt to get through, they're also weighted.

Here you go dude...
Not sure how to go about ordering replacements, I'll be sending these with the rack I'm selling on ebay.
DOn't think you'd need them for the original grabrail.
Here's a pair on ebay that might work, worth a bash for £3.

Re: OE Honda luggage rack
Hi! I've got the same rack.
#6 very important, black, goes between rack and the part shown in the previous message.
#8... ¿kind of thick washer?, uncoloured, goes under seat.
Tomorrow morning I measure them and I tell you (raining here, bike is far, sorry). What is VERY important: rack is fine, quite strong, I use it every day with givi top box. The problem is bolt #7, better to replace the honda originals with 100% steel ones. I strongly recommend you, my ones broke with heavy luggage on rough road and almost broke the plastic tail (and it's a pain in the a.. to take the broken piece out off the frame)

Hi Weetony
THanks for taking the time to take pictures and post. THat item you have pictured, is that number 6 or 8 in my original post picture? Or is that #9 in this link here? My part #9 on grab rail looks very similar to what you have posted.
Cheers

Hi Gaucho, dimesions / pictures would be great.
I was planning on replacing with stronger bolts anyway. is #8 washer important?? i realise #6 is as this is needed to take up the space between grab rail and rack . . . your help would be appreciated

Re: OE Honda luggage rack
I haven't seen the OE racks in the flesh but if your lucky the ones you have for the grab rail (#1 & 2 here) may be enough. It all depends if the rack follows the line of the grab rail without the need for external spacers between fairing & rack. If you do need a spacer any machine shop should be able to knock a couple up quite cheaply (or do it yourself) once you have the dimensions.
As for #8, it's not so important but a large stiff washer will spread the torsional forces from a loaded up rack/top box.

Re: OE Honda luggage rack
what i've pictured is no.9 on the second pic, however, it was used as no.6 on the first pic on the installation of the givi rack i removed from my bike, where it was for a number of years and kilos.
no.10 is rubber and fits snuggly round the spacer.

Re: OE Honda luggage rack
I'm not pretty sure -because of my poor english- but I feel I'm starting to realize what is happening: You should to take the original grab rail out (the grey one that comes with the bike) and replace the entire part with the new rack. Passenger now will use rack sides as grab rails.
Here the pics:
The Big pic: (Don't look to my bike left side because I lost spacer and guide and I had to improvise with car parts)
Only bike's Right side:
Rigth Spacer #6 (along with collar guide & rubber that come with bike)
Rigth spacer #8
Dimensions:
spacer #6 (black): 20mm diam, 8mm thick
spacer #8: 20mm diam, 5mm thick
As you may see in pics, I added steel bolts and split washers to make sure they don´t break or loose again.
