End can purchase
Hello, I'm looking to buy a factory black end can for my 1998 CB 500s.
I've searched everywhere but can't seem to find one. Any suggestions would be welcome.
The other option is to just clean the old one up and paint but too many indifferent reports about how long this is going to last keeps putting me off.
All comments welcome.
Thanks.

Re: End can purchase
I sprayed mine with VHT paint and it still looks as good now, as it did then.
I filled some deep scratches with P38, thinking it might fall out, but it hasn't. As with all painting, preparation is the key. I did spend quite a bit of time getting it just right before I painted it. I think it looks great.

Re: End can purchase
The VHT paint works OK on the end can - it doesn't work as well on the downpipes!
As mentioned, if you are planning to paint it (at least) a good sanding beforehand will make things better.

Jesus wept, the factory exhaust is expensive. Looks like the respray will happen first. What type of VHT paint did you use and did you use some form of undercoat with it.sullivj wrote:I sprayed mine with VHT paint and it still looks as good now, as it did then.

Re: End can purchase
I used two cans of this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autotek-AT0VHTB500-500ml-VHT-Paint/dp/B004ZJIP86/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384356955&sr=8-1&keywords=vht
I didn't use an undercoat, but I did apply a light coat of VHT and then rubbed it back with wet and dry before putting the final two or three coats on.

Re: End can purchase
Well done. Definitely a good choice.
Spend quite a bit of time rubbing it down (do it wet, with wet and dry 1200ish).
Dry it off and spray a mist coat. Rub that down lightly and then apply 3 more coats, letting each one dry.
I found it easiest to hang it up to spray and dry.
Oh, and don't forget to spray the clamp and the bolt heads.
When you put it back on, I found a smear of copper slip, helped a lot.

Re: End can purchase
I understand now why your can looks better than mine: you didn't just splash on a load of paint and hope for the best
More seriously, the advice given above is good advice - if you want your can to look nice, do what is described - lots of thin coats and plenty of careful sanding.
