Engine casing respray
I am going to respray one of the engine casings as you can see it needs it.
I removed the engine guard today and im going to give that a rub down and respray too.
What i want to ask (and i know this question shows me up for the mechanic im not) is what is behind this cover and is it easy to remove and refit?
Cheers

Not sure what's behind there.
Could you be tempted to stick these on instead?

Fair enough. I will be very interesting to see how you get on, as my clutch cover (the other side), could do with a paint.

Re: Engine casing respray
you can take this side off no probs, dont have to drain the oil, try and get the gasket off in one piece (if it got one on), if not, then refit with some gasket sealer.

I painted mine not so long ago and didn't take them off but still got a good finish all the way round. That paint is thicker than normal (so I've been told) so if you need to used a more abrasive sand paper to start with, don't hesitate. If you don't end up taking it off, make sure everywhere!!

@Tricky I was worried about oil spillage but didnt figure on there being a gasket...

Re: Engine casing respray
On the left hand side is the flywheel and stator coil. The stator is kept in an oil bath to keep it cool so there ***WILL*** be oil in there so make sure you have something down to catch it. Get yourself a tube of high temp RTV silicone sealant. Exactly the same stuff as "Gastite" just without the stupid price tag.
When you spray it make sure to mask off the sealing edge first and then when you're done just peel off the masking whack on some RTV silicone leave it 24 hours to dry and you're away!

Re: Engine casing respray
Cheers G3o for the precise info, although i think i could remove the cover and refit i think i will chicken out and respray it while its on the engine. A bit more awkward i know and i probably wont get the results i could if i removed it but i dont like the sound of having to reseal it and the fact that oil will spill what with being a novice n all.
Great site this

Looks 100 times better than before. Guess you did it in situ? Nice job. Well done you.

Re: Engine casing respray
yeah done it without removal, lots of delicate sanding/masking but worth it for the results
