    In my local Gumtree there has been a 2001 Yamaha 1300 sp 6000 miles, offers at £1200 and I thought the CB was a better bet. Am I sane ?

    You should go for it:  assuming it isn't a con then you could sell that on ebay for more than 1200 quid...
