Unpretentious is the key word!
I think another strong point on this forum is that most of you are Brits.
With that comes a specifically type of humor and behavior, which i appreciate a lot!

A foreigner?!....
How dare you post on our typically British forum!
(Of course, I'm joking)

Re: mod or upgrade
After a long term hiatus from the forum I felt compelled to join in this discussion.
I no longer own my CB500, although the engine was sweet the rest of the bike was a disaster waiting to happen so I went to my local garage and traded her in for a Bandit 600. The reason I got the bandit were numerous, firstly I'd only recently passed my test and so wanted to get a bike that could do 2-up happily enough without being overly powered for me, secondly the local garage had a 2000 mk1 S model with only 9k on the clocks and three I was depressed.
Now 4 months on I don't regret my choice, the bandit is a great bike but I miss my cb500. The truth is at low revs the bandit is clinical, the power delivery is tame and you have to rev the nuts off it to get a thrill at which point I am out of my depth skill wise. The CB500 was fun at lower speed and when you revv'd the nuts off it you were gifted with the best 2,000 rpm you'll ever have (8k-10k).
Now I've had an agreement with the missus that after we buy a house and get married I can have a second bike. I wouldn't get rid of the bandit, it's good at what it does but I always thought I would get a street triple or an MT-07/09. The truth is though I'm a tight b*stard and paying finance + high insurance premiums just isn't weighing up quite the same as buying a CB500 having the same thrills but at almost zero cost!
Anyway, what I am getting at is don't get rid of the 500, you'll regret it!

Re: mod or upgrade
I test drove the MT09, and although the engine is a punch, i really didnt fell for the bike.
Good materials, equipment, price, but it just didnt click with me.
I would like to test drive the MT07 too, because the engine will be a blast i think.
Both these bikes are ugly like hell IMO. Too futurisitc.
Ideal bike for me would be an interpretation of the Gizzo, NineT from Honda.
Cheaper, with a Twin engine, very economical, but classy!
A CB1100 but not as retro, keeping simple design (and shapes!!!! I dont know what designers are smoking but they come up with some freaking UGLY shapes that are completely non functional!!!), with a new tech Twin.
1000 cc more a less, close to 100 hp.
Man.....i am going to sleep right away just to start dreaming.
