Newby from Essex Empty Newby from Essex

Post by Roxymusic Mon 10 Mar 2014, 8:28 am

Hi all, Ive just sold a Yam xjr 1300 (too heavy, or im getting old) and managed to find a Y reg cb5oo with only 5000 miles on the clock and full service history. From what you all say about these bikes it should last me some time.
Any tips and advice would be much appreciated .
Cheers. Shocked

Welcome aboard Smile

Read a MCN review of the XJR, and it seems that it's basically a bigger, thirstier, beefier version of the CB - built to a lower quality standard. You're 'converting' from a considerably bigger bike. Most people want to go the other way. I'd be interested to hear your findings, as you settle in on that fine piece of equipment you have got hold of.

Cheers chaps.. Ive had the xjr for over two years and ive always wanted one after having 650 twins for years. To be honest its massively heavy, slow to handle and very thirsty . I test rode the cb500 Saturday and just thought it was brilliant and the mcn review sold it to me.

Welcome! As others have said, your bike will probably see you out. Whereabouts in Essex are you? I was born in Chelmsford and lived in Basildon, Billericay and Southend.

The CB500 doesn't have any particular Achilles Heel. Lacquer falls off, particularly on the engine, but they're no worse than any other basic middleweight; they're certainly WAY better bikes than the GS500 & ER-5.

Then you must be familiar with the fun of the A414 to Chelmsford!
