1998 Honda CB500S (converted to CB500) for sale
With great regret, after a long consideration I have decided to sell my trusty CB500S motorcycle...
This is a 1998 S-model which has been converted into a CB500, therefore the clock was also replaced (I still have the original speedo with me) and the current mileage of the bike is 29,064
Road tax: 31/08/2014
MOT: 22/08/2014
V5: Present-On my name with the correct home address
Bike is still currently insured and being used regularly.
The good points:
----------------
-The engine does not use any oil at all between oil changes and sounds lovely
-Full service history since new
-Recent work on the bike (Around 3000 miles ago):
-New oil+oil filter
-New airfilter
-New braided brake hose front+rear
-New brake fluid front+rear
-New front brake disc
-New brake pads front+rear
-Suzuki GSXR exhaust (aluminium so no more rust)
-New chain around 100 miles ago
-Fenda extenda
-Mini clear indicators
-Very economical (1 tank = over 220 miles)
-Dunlop GT501 tires-plenty of life left in both and rear
-Crash bars
-Recent new Iridium 2x spark plugs
-Recent battery and rectifier
-Recent sprockets front+rear
-Recent speedo cable
-Recent new fork oil
The bad points:
---------------
-The bike clearly needs some TLC, especially the paintwork
-On my recent trip the chain snapped which broke the chain/front sprocket cover and some other bits (see photo)
-Unfortunately 1 of my fork is bent slightly (not visible by the eye). At the moment I have managed to fix it, so the bike rides straight, no probs. www.pittedforks.co.uk - quoted me £135 to rebuild and fix both of my forks, or you can get another used one, or ride it as it is.
Comes with old MOTs, service history, 4x keys (1x original, 3x copies), owners manual, service book, some old receipts, etc
It doesn't take too long to fix the bike up, or use it for parts or just use it as it is.
Reason of the sale: I will probably get a BMW F650, or something taller, plus slightly more off-road capable...or I might just get a CBF500
The price is £550 and I am based in Bicester, Oxfordshire
Let me know if you are interested
Thanks

You cannot say that I didn't take enough photos

Almost forgot: I also have a Haynes manual and a rack for a topbox. They will both come with the bike.

Good luck with the sale. Bike looks tidy and nobody can say you didn't put up enough photos to allow for a proper evaluation.
And thanks for the link to PittedForks. I found their diagnosis section (how to gauge if your oil & oil-level are correct) most informative. Bookmarked!

Your very welcome stormbringer
To be honest I keep thinking whether to sell or not... it's just such a great bike, however the CBF500 might be slightly better maybe!?
Has any of you tried the CBF500? How it is compare to the CB500?

demeza (on this forum) owns one of those CBF's - I had him over for a quick paint of the collectors and we had a yarn in the shed, waiting for the paint to dry.
Nice bloke. Nice bike. But I wouldn't trade my CB for his CBF. Honda added some anti-pollution gadgetry to the exhaust system, changed the rear suspension to monoshock and gave it a visual makeover. Other than that, it's the same bike.
My personal inclination with bikes is 'KISS' - meaning the added exhaust-gadgetry is excess baggage in my view.
Also, I like the rather oldskool looks of the CB - it is what it is. The CBF is more modern. You may have a different opinion and that's perfectly okay - taste is individual.
But i believe the two bikes work the same. I don't think you're going to get a better bike by swapping.

Screw it- after thinking about selling it the whole day, I have decided to keep it! It's too good to sell, plus the money and the hours I've spent on it...
Anyway, sorry about this, but the bike is NOT FOR SALE ANY MORE
Now back to the drawing board
