Hello from Portugal
Hi!
New rider and first bike (cb500r, 1994) here
Recently got my licence and bought a good condition 500r from a friend. 60k km(true milleage) for ~1000gbp (bikes are quite expensive here and seen as a luxury item, even if you don't own a car).
Will post pics of it asap, but it's fairly original condition.
I was super happy to find such a good community around the cb500, as it's a bike seen as good for couriers and driving schools only here in Portugal (had the bike for 1month and people ask me all the time if I'm a courier and that the bike is in excellent condition).
Well, that's all, will ask a lot of questions later on the right forum sections.

Re: Hello from Portugal
Welcome!
It is also often used in the UK as a courier or driving school bike but I am always keeping an eye out for what bikes couriers and bike schools are using because it it usually a sign they are cheap to run and reliable! : )
Hope you enjoy it - there are definitely plenty of great roads out there you can enjoy it on!

Re: Hello from Portugal
Welcome.
Yes, it's a courier's bike. For a reason. Yes, it's a learner's bike. For a reason. Do not be intimidated by those leather-clad expensive-bike-riders telling you it's about time for you to upgrade to a *real* bike. The 'umble CB has a trick or two up its sleeve, if you know how to do and where to do it.
You see, those big bikes are - well, big... The CB is comparatively light and much more nimble. For town work, it's excellent. If you take it to the track, it will give Lamborghinis a run for their money. It travels long distance if you want it to. It is cheap and economical to own, partly because it's well made. It's reliable, partly because it's basic. And in my view, it's got the look of 'the quintessential motorbike' - actually, it's coming back into fashion these days. See eg the CB1100 2014's throwback styling for reference.
I'm quite sure you will not regret getting a CB.
