Cooling fan alternatives?
hi folks,
The cooling fan motor on my 1996 winter hack is dead and a new replacement from Honda costs more than the bike is worth!
I've tried several breakers with no joy, so does anyone know of a replacement from another bike that will work?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Jon

Re: Cooling fan alternatives?
I'd say ebay is your best bet, I picked mine up for £40 which was semi reasonable.

I've not tried it, but I reckon almost any fan from a reasonable sized motorcycle that can be made to fit (and work!) will do the job.
TBH unless you spend an inordinate amount of time in traffic, especially given this weather, I'm not sure you'll have an (immediate) problem.

Thanks folks.
I tried ebay with no joy, so will keep trying breakers and ebay until something comes up. If I get a chance, I will pop over to the local breakers to try an see what will do the job as per ET's suggestion.
As you say, not needed in this weather, but it needs an MoT, so they might take a dim view ...... if they notice!
Cheers,
Jon

They don't check the fan so I wouldn't worry
Are you sure the fan is duff? Have you fed 12v directly into it?

Yup, dead as a Dodo At first, I thought it would just be coroded connectors or a bad eath (like I said, the bike is a winter hack, so gets minimal attention, for maximum foul weather use) but feeding 12V straight into the motor itself (i.e. not relying on earthing , etc) gives nothing. Putting an Ohmeter across it just gives an open circuit as well.
However, having cleaned off the makers label on the back and plugged-in the manufacturers part number to Google, I found one for 45 quid on German eBay, so I've just bought that one
I have no idea why a "worldwide" search from the UK eBay didn't find it, but I suppose its the result that matters, not how you get there.
Thanks for the tip about the fan not being on the MoT; I didn't realise that.
Thanks for the help & advice.
Jon
