chains

Hi guys, is it really necessary to fit a endless chain could i fit a spring link in to the chain, they have never given any trouble on other bikes i have rode, cheers

ive done track days with a split link chain with no probs, however, an endless chain is safer.

right I have just re-read the debate on split link and endless chains and im now resignd to the fact that in the near future im going to have to get an endless one which I am less than happy about ok so they are probably better /safer than the split link but what irks me is the fact that I can no longer change my own chain which is something I have been doing since I was 16 on my fs1e its now been taken away from me I either have to get a garage or my mate to do it I cant go in the cave any more and take it off with a pair of pliers other than that I have to buy a chain splitter, sorry about the rant but im miffed about it, perhaps they should come up with an updated chain with a link that would suit me

Think of it this way; Having bought that chain riveter and taken the financial hit, in a year you will enjoy the benefits of a safer final drive with less maintenance. And in the years to come, you'll be 'that mate' people go to when they want to change their riveted chains.
Lots of little opportunities to go to your cave with a mate, a couple of beers and something practical to do. Not so bad.
Not planning on getting a riveter? Then grab a couple of beers and visit your mate, go to  in his cave and do something practical. Not so bad.

Spring links: Do they come with O-rings? If not, were you planning on fitting a non-O-ring-chain????

you guys are probably right and I will have to get a rivet extractor in the end and anyway the idea of a few mates in the cave with some tinnies talking about bikes appeals to me

dear all re the chain debate, I have ridden motorcycles for forty years of all capacities I have never had a chain part from using I split link, I think that it your are not racing in normal use the normal split link are perfectly ok regards j

DID says on the box not to use 'em, so I don't use 'em.
If there's less chance of a chain taking my leg off with a riveted link, I'll use that, no matter how unlikely that scenario is either way.
