temperature gauge
After reading a post on another forum i decided to fit a temperature gauge.I bought one from lidl for £3.99,its mainly for a car but it looks ok on the bracket i made for it,it as a ice alert,it also as a clock. For £3.99 its worth a go.Its probbaly not waterproof so i'll put a plastic bag over it.

Re: temperature gauge
Do you mean a thermometer? I'm pretty sure that my CB already has a temperature gauge :)
Anyway, does it work?

E, I`am guessing tracker3 is refering to an outside air temperature?
cannot possible be a thermometer, that would cause far too much discomfort whilst riding surley..

Re: temperature gauge
Sorry for the confusion. Its an external temperature gauge, the blurb-

For indoor or outdoor use with ice-warning function

Displays indoor and outdoor temperatures (°C/°F) and time (12/24hr format)

Temperature range (°C): -50 to +70

External sensor with cable, length (m): 3

Battery included
Size approx. (cm): 3 x 11.5 x 3

Re: temperature gauge
If the sensor is in the airstream won't the temperature drop when you are going along due to the chill factor?

Re: temperature gauge
Apparently not.How does a car one cope?

Re: temperature gauge
car ones are purposely protected from the airstream..there screened to help cut false readings.
if you park up with a hot engine they will be higher than norm when you next set off but normally only by 1 or 2 degrees, this finds norm again once you get going ( under bonnet heat is there biggest problem rather than airflow.)
A good air metre will also be calibrated to work out sudden extremes etc.

Re: temperature gauge
I think the sensor is inside the grille in front of the windscreen? But sometimes if you park just right the sun shines on it you get a false read. Soon cools down as soon as you go along.

Re: temperature gauge
If you have one of those digital thermometers with a sensor on a long wire you can put it somewhere a bit protected that doesn't get hot (like under the rear plastics or behind the headlight) and you'll probably get a good reading.
I often *don't* want to know the temperature, 'bloody freezing' is often good enough for me :)

Re: temperature gauge
The gauge as inside and outside sensors. The outside sensor is attached to a longish wire, this i have attached to behind the
flyscreen, the unit itself which as an internal sensor, is attached to the handlebars.
My first spin on the bike since it was fitted was last saturday, which we covered over 55mls.The sensor on the bars which is in the wind blast was reading 1 degree warmer than the sensor behind the screen, go figure.
It all may be a complete waste of time but what the hell it was only £3.99,and the clock is handy.

I keep meaning to fit one to mine... have thought about getting one of those 8 quid casio watches from Argos and velcroing it onto the top yoke somewhere...

I have a mercury gauge on the left by the switch gear, its shielded from the wind by a ribbed condom, unfortunately this fills with air as i ride and does get somewhat large to the amusement of car drivers...
time is taken care of by a balsa wood sundial mounted on the brake fluid reservoir..

I'm not sure I'd want one. If I knew I was late I'd be riding faster to get there and might make a mistake I'd regret!

When I am at a stand-still in traffic, say at a Rail-Crossing or Traffic Lights, I look into the side-windows of the car(s) I am next to and read it off their Dashboard....
I agree with teamster1975... I'd hate to know I was late else might ride faster and put myself at more risk by making unnecessary menouvres at speed...!

Yes, I tried taping my mothers clock from above the mantlepiece but the pendulum was too long and got affected by the wind blast.....Her Fridge thermometer works fine though and apparently I will last and be good for another week at least

That`s all very well and good caretaker, but how the hell do you balance a fridge on those handle bars...?

yes, your right..I couldnt really balance it thats why i tie it on and then.. -I just avoid doing ' wheelies'
I have to admit it can be difficut when the door flies open..at speed!
Thank god its not a chest freezer or it'd be a really daft idea
