Front brake lever spring (Brembo)
Does anyone have any nifty ideas to solve the problem of the front brake light switch activating above 80mph on the Brembo models?
It did it at lower speeds than this before I overhauled the master cylinder (including replacing the pushrod spring, which I believe is the culprit, as well as the main spring and all other parts) but it still does it, just at higher speeds.

Re: Front brake lever spring (Brembo)
I have a bit of rubber hose over the bit of the lever that activates the switch.

No worries. I always put the fault down to a pattern lever but now I'm wondering if my springs need looking at.

Well as I say I renewed both springs and it still does it if I go at 90 or faster. Perhaps it's an inbuilt warning system that you're going too fast...
I never had this problem in 120,000 miles on my Nissin-equipped previous CB5, and I only renewed the master cylinder components a few times in that time.

Either way the rubber hose 'mod/bodge' cures it as the switch gets activated later. I have another brembo mc to fit once stripped the flakey paint off & reconditioned it but I think I'll be leaving the mod on there just incase.

I guess the hose might have the added benefit of acting as a boot to reduce the amount of water that gets to the switch...

It just rests against the end of the switch so there's not much chance of it sealing anything. I suppose it could deflect a bit more wet when running in the rain than without.

It's no 23 on Lings' site.
Crap design, it's a water trap behind the rubber boot, I filled it with red rubber grease the last time I replaced it so maybe it will last a bit longer, the last two coils snap off the spring.

Yeah I meant deflection more than sealing!
I still have a Nissin master cylinder from my old CB - maybe I should swap this in next time it's due for an overhaul. I'm sure I read somewhere on here that the Nissin master cylinder works well with the Brembo caliper.

reckon you're right about the pattern levers....... I had exactly the same problem and then bought a used genuine lever off Ebay....... sorted out the problem.

Hmmm maybe the levers on mine aren't Honda ones...were any models fitted with black levers as standard? If not then I'll be getting some Honda ones!

I never updated this...
I replaced the front brake lever with a new Brembo one. The one on there said Brembo on it as well, but the problem of the light coming on at high speed has now totally gone.

Got to ask. How did you know the brake light was coming on at that speed ?

I found out the usual way of someone pulling up next to me at the lights & telling me.
