sidestand springs
My sidestand has developed a wobble, and I think its the spring thats worn thats the cause. Can find plenty of places selling the little sub spring, but not the main one. Anyone know if parts from any other models will fit?

Re: sidestand springs
If you have a problem sourceing one, a temporary solution might be to use a spring from a drum brake overhaul kit. I find that over the years I've accumulated a selection of these from various ( now gone ) cars I used to own.

Re: sidestand springs
Mine does exactly the same. The lug on the frame that the spring hooks on has worn half way through, I removed the sidestand and the bolt hole in the frame has elongated along with associated wear on the bolt itself. Check that for starters as the lug on the frame wearing is bloody dangerous, imagine that snapping while you're riding!
For me I need to get the hole filled with weld and re drill it, get a new bolt and get the lug renewed either with weld or a bolt. Also new side stand.

Re: sidestand springs
My s-stand is really saggy and has about and inch play in it at the pivot end (which is about 4 or more at the foot end). I just make sure it's always clean and lubricated in a vane attempt to halt further ware. Probably need to get it checked over by someone who actually knows about this kind of thing, before I start getting engine cut outs and a sheared off arm going through the back spokes, locking the rear up and high siding me when I'm doing 95 down the M63. So - there's one bike-related new years resolution to be going on with.
Previous owners, eh? Who'd have 'em. I see some really grotty side and main stands on older bikes - they're really easy to neglect because some owners don't even give them a second thought; they're not part of the engine, suspension or final drive so eh...they seem to end up having to fend for themselves, situated as they are in a quite exposed location (although EP90 freaks like me do inadvertently coat both stands in a preserving film of flung lube). By contrast I'm a bit of a pivot-point nazi - if it moves, clean it and lube it. Often. Like, at least once a week. Is my motto. Not exactly a snappy motto, granted - but dagnabbit it's served me well thus far.

Re: sidestand springs
I had the same problem on my previous cb500 3 or 4 years ago. Even then, the main spring wasn't available, so I fitted a new sub spring. This didn't help, so I messured up the springs on the rest of the fleet. A small sample, only 3 other bikes, but the closest was my wife's Honda Rebel. It turned out to be quite a bit shorter, and it was a hefty spring, but I rigged up a spanish windlass to stretch it, stuffed as many coins & washers as I could between the coils & with the stand up, it slipped on ok. I then put the stand down & pulled out all the washers & coins - job done! I sold the bike about a year later & it was still working fine & when it was up, it was really up! The Rebel has a sub spring as well, but I didn't bother with it. Maybe you could carry a measure & check other bikes when your parked up with them, but otherwise, at least that's one possibility.
