Airbox conversion
Hi,
after tinkering with my bike for a while now, I have come to an idea of removing the airbox and fitting replacement filters (either dual or two individual units) straight to the inlet stubs of the carbs.
Before I attempt this however, I was wondering if anyone on the forum had tried this before and if so what modifications to the fuelling would be needed?
As I believe they are fixed jet carb's therefore if the conversion could go ahead, a larger jet would be required to supply the larger flow of air through to the engine.
After looking on k&n's website, finding a set of filters that would fit wouldnt be too much of an issue, it is the jetting and fuelling afterwards that would be more of a challenge. Any advise or pointers on this would be a great help!
cheers.

Re: Airbox conversion
just to try something different, its a project bike so keeping it as factory isn't the plan,
If it is the case that the fuelling solution that will be required is too expensive then the original airbox will go back on, and a simple replacement performance filter will be fitted, but it seems like something interesting to experiment with.
any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Airbox conversion
well if it's a project bike then go ahead!
The crankcase breather goes in to the airbox so that will need a filter on it.
Then it's a matter of getting some much bigger mains jets and you may need some intake tubes of a specific length to compensate for losing the resonance from the airbox - or you might lose all the midrange! (no idea how long, sorry)
It will also be very loud right underneath you which could be annoying.
Please publish the results!
