Broken carb replacement Empty Broken carb replacement

Post by geoffnorfolk Fri 17 Jun 2016, 8:09 pm

My son had a bit of a mishap with his 1994 CB500r............ decided to "tap" the starter motor as the brushes tend to stick now and then....... it invariably does the trick and gets the motor going again.  Anyway..... not being too mechanically minded, thinking he was hitting the starter,he tapped the r/h carb and punched a big hole in the side of it.... even broke the float!!  I looked up the carb part numbers and the various cb500 years all have slightly different part numbers.  Are they all interchangeable?  Anyone got a set of carbs to sell?  He said he thought it very strange that there was petrol in the starter motor!!!

I have a spare set of carbs for sale, I'm not sure of they work as I've never used them and there is some screws/bolts missing from them. I believe that @andyc has some spare working off his trackbike project?

It was probably(hopefully) the float bowl and float within it that are damaged. I have spares. If you can post a photo of the damage to clarify it. So I can sort out the correct parts. Very Happy

If only it was!!! He demolished the side of the float bowl + a bit of the body above!! It was only a light tap apparently ............ I guess we've all made blunders in the past lol.

I have my spare set of carbs, complete except the choke operating plate and the idle speed adjusting screw. These are a straightforward swap from your carbs though.

Those carbs look fantastic Andy........ however do you get them looking so good??!!  £50 + postage sounds great.  If you're happy to post them, that'll be really helpful...........  I'll try and send a "private message" with my contact details and you can let me know how you want payment........ cheque/Paypal?...............  Many thanks  Geoff

I certainly will!! I couldn't believe it when I saw the damage lol.  I was surprised though how easy it broke.... I was assured that he only gave it a "light tap" Smile
