So I am considering a change to my exhaust system this is in part to cater for some new rear sets in the future. Anyway, I want to place the end under the rear sets as shown in a photo of my friend's bike

Id like to know has this been done before on the CB 500?

I've messed about with it a little bit, you'll need a very small angled link tube, given a custom hanger it can be done. The only thing that stopped me from continuing is the ground clearance when cornering.
