Any Eastern Spain recommendations?
Hi there I'm travelling down to Malaga, through France. Never explored Spain before - any idea on how to tackle it? Guess I'll stick to the A roads... honestly don't know what to expect. Worth tracking the coast down?
Cheers

You are in for a treat, some of the best roads in the world along this route in my opinion!
Rode down that way on a few years back, too many great roads to mention. Best approach have a look on google maps, switch to terrain mode so you can see the relief and aim for the small roads in the hills!
Stand out memories for me include:
-Mountain roads in the Basque Country as you head south from the coast.
-Random mountain roads west of Pamplona where an old boy on an ancient BMW saw me struggling to read a map in the middle of nowhere and proceeded to kindly lead me into town with the most insane bike handling skills though the miles of twisties (could not keep up!)
-Canyon roads in the hills around Cuenca (town worth a visit)
-Mountain roads into Carzola (e.g. A-319)
-Then all the canyon roads around Granada (another great city) and the mountains between Granada and Malaga. You are spoiled for choice!
The only problem I had all the twisty roads will obviously slow you down a lot compared to motorway and you soon realise you simply don't have enough time to explore that many great roads as they seem to be everywhere out there!

Any ideas if these roads or the pyrenees close with snow in winter specifically over Christmas

Pyrenees are very likely to be closed by snow in winter, yes. South of that I don't know.

Yep some passes over the Pyrenees likely be closed for winter but the other ones I mentioned are not at that altitude and likely open year round. They will probably be freezing though!

Avoid highways and look for lower level roads. The coast is very beautiful but very crowded.
Take an alternative route to escape if you fall into a massing looking for coast and sea.
tourism guilty.
hooligans tourist go home.

we've just come back from a 2500 mile Portugal Spain France trip...and we left Portugal and got on the 420 all the way from Merida.....then the 430....two lovely quiet roads right across the middle of Spain....I would stay away from the coast....we came over the Pyranees from Bielsa on the Spanish side after spending the night as the campsite at Caspe....it's all good
