The chain is at the limit of its tension, but does that automatically mean time for a new rear sprocket? cheers.

To my eye the tell-tale shark finning on the sprocket isn't very obvious... but I don't know! cheers

Harder to tell from just the one photos but looks good to me. Its good practise to change sprockets and chain together but you can usually run two chains to one set of sprockets if needed. Check the front before you commit though, if that's started to hook you're best off changing the whole lot at once.

Well worn, the u shape is too wide and isn't a consistent contour. If you look at the edge of the teeth they're slightly hooked, time for new chain and sprockets and maybe a wash as your bike is dirtier than mine and that takes some doing!
Or wack on a +42 tooth and get some more life out of your chain. Just keep an eye on the chain rollers incase they crack through!

Cheers James. How do you wash the ride? Jet wash? Yep, it is in need...

Definitely the downside with biking. There is no easy way.A clean bike is usually an unused bike.fgclark123 wrote:How do you wash the ride?

Get caught out in a lot of torrential downpours, heavy enough to clean the roads of all the rubbish then the rest of the spray cleans the bike. My pressure washer didn't fully drain the last time I used it and the temps last winter cracked the powered metal housing as the water expanded. Not bothered getting another one yet

I tend to look at two tests of wear, the front sprocket lives a harder life than the rear so look at it, I bet your's is hucked (misspelt that, should have an f). Secondly if you pull the chain at the rear of the back sprocket can you see daylight between the chain and sprocket? If you can it's on it's way, the worst is if you can get a pencil between them!

This is the assessment method explained to me by an MOT tester here. In NI, MOT test centres are government run, they are not private businesses.motofan wrote:Secondly if you pull the chain at the rear of the back sprocket can you see daylight between the chain and sprocket? I used to teach that at the RAC/ACU Training Scheme in the 70s! God, I'm getting old!
