Clutch basket
Having recently got my forks re-sealed and a new front sprocket fitted to my CB5 i'm now thinking about the next 'little prob' on my machine....a rattling clutch basket.
It's not terrble but it's there and if possible i'd like to quiten it down abit or totally if i can. I had the same rattle on my last bike a Kawi 600 GPZ and was told it wouldn't do any harm leaving it to rattle and also told that a new basket might rattle just the same, so i didn't bother with it any further.
Difference with the CB5 is i'd like to keep this bike alot longer than i did the Kawi, so is it possible to cure the problem without spending £££££££'s to do it?

Re: Clutch basket
hi Simon
to be honest I`am no expert when it come to clutches, but is it possible that a change of springs may help the problem?
If so a look here wouldnt hurt;

just a thought...

Re: Clutch basket
Thanks wazzbo, i've done as you recommended and see the mod davebike500 carried out...my CB5 has the same problem which gets better as the bike warms up and the springs expand a little taking up the rattle and chatter....thanks again

Clutch noise cb 500 1996
I having worked on many bikes this cb500 bike just stripped the clutch cover,having worked on a lot of machinery,thought it may be the clutch bearing at 52k the bearing itself has some wear but not critical, after removing the clutch lock nut (anticlockwise) removed clutch cage and the Friction springs six of them, behind the clutch are loose in the spring holders asking a honda dealer he informed me that two are to be tight and the rest not,however I feel that they were a tight/ loose fit on new. the new price is about £340 I was informed that the friction springs are not for sale as an item new,as one could do the repair by drilling out the rivets so I am replacing with a second hand low mileage clutch cage to fix this problem,as to drive the bike does your head in sounds like loose parts flying around. but yes you can drive the bike without doing it in,just does your head in! hope this helps worried bike world . will say the bike is actually very well made no wonder they ran this model without modifications for so long,like jewellery as finished parts.
