Just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Joe and I have joined the forum. Mainly as I have been sold a very cheap cb500. But I may have to retire it soon. I am so impressed with the model I would like to replace it for like. So me I am as mad as they come live love and breath motorbikes. Do most of my own maintenance and enjoy it. I have mainly Triumph's but this Honda is a great machine.

    Hi Joe,

It's awesome that you are here! Perhaps the CB has more life in it than you expect. They are remarkably hard to kill! Best of luck with it.

    Gordon.
Thanks for the welcome. Yes the poor old bike plods along. But has nearly 70.000 miles clocked up. Runs like a two stroke. But I like it for  it's character and  Grunt. I may purchase another and restore this one. I don't think it was very well looked after for many years now. In fact I am positive it has been neglected.

Think so. It has had a hard unloved life. At  present having trouble with carbs right side does't kick in till over two thou revs.

    Hey Joe
Sorry to read (in the other place) about your engine. Very unusual to go like that as the CB500 is good for well into the 100,000+ miles if decently maintained. Maybe AndyC could help with parts or an engine to fix yours.

Thanks mate. Just got to give it a good check over first. It's got good spark and fuel is good. But I am hoping someone fitted the wrong plugs being iridium and did look slightly longer. I have ordered some original fitment ones and all I can do is hope. But the bike has not been cared for atall. Every thing was seized even back brake slider pins had rotted away and seized.  Front had seized on. Only good thing is the wiring seems un touched. I have seen a couple of nice ones for sale so might save my pennies and have two one good and one doner.
                   Regards
                      Joe.

That's sensible. I think that if you get a decent one you'll find that it grows on you. A lot of similarities to the Bonneville, except it revs a lot harder and it has much better performance than you would expect. I bought mine as a cheap run-about and now I wouldn't part with it.

    Chap's Girls
Well changed the plugs and reset the carbs. Old Honda fired straight up and purred. Thanks for the help. It now gives me more miles to find a cheap bike to spruce this one up more as it does look like an ugly duckling. And I now thing the starter motor is on the way out as it sticks and I got to rock it back and forth to free it.
                 Regards
                     Joe.

    Beresford.
Great place and even better riding country. I am a native Bushmills immigrant. Next time I am over we must meet and have a chat. Belfast always brings back memories as a kid never went there without coming hoe with a black eye similar to Ballymena.

A cousin of mine used to run the Bushmills Inn, a fine hostlery. He and his wife were both bikers.

That's great. I'M sure he met my Dad at least he liked a good drink and I think visited every pun inn around the area. Boy I miss my home so much. But haven't had the heart to go home since we lost our Mum a couple of years ago. But I am getting better and make a visit possible next year.
