Peeps I desperately need a good front end. IE forks or stantions would also love it if i could find a red front fairing or any fairing. Put my 98 bike back on the road today and I swear it is trying to do me in. It does not ride straight and slides on right hand corners. I would even be interested if someone had a rolling chassis for sale any thing to make it ridable again. Believe me it is a scary machine at present. Also just put a new chain on and the rear end seems to creek but no play in the bearings any advise would be apreachied.

Hi Joe. Used stanchions are going to be at least 17 years old now, I would think that it would be better to get new ones if yours are bent. I would think that with your collection you have enough experience to check the alignment of the bike when you put it back together - teaching Granny to suck eggs ?
Creaking at the rear might be the shock absorber bushes. I find that a squirt of WD40 sometimes works for those.

Nice to hear from you again. Did you see there is a real peach of a steed down in Portrush. If only I were over there I would have it and ride it home. My Bike I am a bit worried the frame may be bent. The fairing does not line up any more but hoping that it is just the frame. Forks I shall test later as I really need to do a complete rebuild on them first. I also think the drive sprocket is knackered as it still cracks even after the new chain. Just feel i purchased another very tired bike.

I have always replaced sprockets at the same time as the chain as the cost for the complete kit wasn't too much, and I also use a clip link - which some people don't approve of, even though I've never had any problems with it. Makes chain removal and cleaning a lot more convenient.
If you think your frame may be bent, careful measurement with a tape and some straight edges will check that out for you. All the necessary dimensions are in the Haynes manual.
Eliminate the cheap and easy problems before you rush to scrap the whole bike. A simple drain , flush and oil replenish of the front forks may be all that is necessary to improve the handling.
Strange you should say that about the fairing. The one on my bike doesn't line up very well either, but the frame is fine.
