    Silencer Empty Silencer

Post by Tony Thu 05 Oct 2023, 10:06 am

Hi. Just joined after owning my 1997 cb for a year. Nice bike! Advice please.
I have a stainless Delkevic exhaust with a PR 1828 silencer with a baffle fitted. Even with the baffle it sounds very "fruity". What should I do to quieten things down?
    Thanks. Tony

    hello,

insert some wire mesh before (upstream) the baffle
wire mesh from cars catalytic exhaust
    wire mesh for dishes cleaner
    wire mesh whatever
    stainless steel wire mesh !

Had the same issue and did a lot of trials - errors.

I have a full Delcevic and both PR 1875 and PR 1828, the long one is OK with the baffle in
the short one too loud for my taste , wire mesh was the solution.

the wire mesh gave me the feeling that blocks somehow the gases out.

finally got the baffle out, cut out the front part, the cap, and stuffed wire mesh from a catalytic exhaust , this did the job.

after all its a personal taste / feeling.

    hi Tony,
why you have the Delcevic ?
I switched to Motad about 20 years ago.
about 4-5 years ago to Delcevic, the bike was losing performance and this was my first approach to solve the performance issue.
    then starts a chaos:
too noisy, install the long silencer,  vibrations at ~6000rpm, counter weights at different weights at the handlebars, jetting (started from 125, up to 140), wire meshes at the exhaust, air filters free flow & others, all the combinations of these...and so on and so on, took me 3+ years.
finally exchanged the carbs vacuum slides (the membrane stuff) with brand new and everything came in place, including performance.
I even think to go back to Motad, because still I have some small vibrations at the handlebars at 6500rpm (8000rpm and above is the smoothest range)
Delcevic looks and sounds much better, (3 holes at the end cap of the Motad change the sound to better)  , still Motad is heavier .

    I don't know, after all it's a CB, not a CBR

after switching to Motad I'll feedback the situation.

    keep & ride safe.

Hi. The Delkevic was fitted when I got the bike. Seems Good quality just too loud. Bike runs beautifully and is smooth throughout the rev range. I'll try wire mesh before I spend a lot on it.

    post a feedback
you still have to trial error the quantity of the wire mesh
the ones for dishes cleaning fit good, but blown out after some rides, then push it back in or replace it

something like this, or smaller (1 piece, the 6 came with the photo...)

Sounds like it is worth a go.  There is little to loose, assuming you can find a way of keeping it in there!

I didn't think Motad were still trading?
