    Whoops 100k I meant.

It's *under* the glass?? Hah - ace.

Does remind me again though why they didn't put an extra reel on the milometer, especially given that these bikes - perhaps more than any - are capable of high mileages.

I thought this, too. I bought a set of lightly damaged ST1100 clocks to see if I can use its odometer, but a transplant is beyond my skill-level - there's no 'user serviceable' parts inside Sad I don't fancy having to open the clocks every few years to add another digit!

Yeah - I swear I've seen at least four CB500s on eBay this year that have quite evidently been round the clock but were being sold as low mile bikes.

Unless they have the documentation to back it up I'd automatically assume any low milage bike thats 10+ years old has been around the clock.  In some ways I'd prefer a high milage machine that's been taken care of over one that's spent years sitting in a garage being neglected.

Yep, miles & regular use/servicing is definitely more desirable.

I like your little screen. What's that on the floor by your main stand? Has something fallen off, or have you parked in the only space with debris in it?

Is it just the bit you stand on to get the uh stand down? Anyway, looks good that bike. Fuel can on it as well. Always nice to see - and nicer still to hear!

The "stuff on the floor" is a stack of washers and door stops that stop the stand from going up and rubbing on the chain as it was when I got it. The original fitting has corroded so much that the peg that was there was twisting and not doing its job. Needed something chunkier. Smile

Wow I see what you are saying - everyone else has a black cover lol! I guess the previous owner must have got bored one day.   Thanks for pointing it out, I'd honestly never noticed that and now it seems so obvious!  affraid  I guess it's pretty good nick for a 16 year old bike but fairly low mileage (~16,000).

That's a good-looking bike, Ceejay! I love the colour-coordinated paint they put on the rad shrouds on the 500V-W's. I'm going to rob that idea of painting the airbox lid!

Thanks, I can't claim credit for the painted airbox lid but maybe the previous owner has started a trend!

Originally I didn't want to add a screen as I prefer the look without one but then the combination doing a fair bit of motorway miles with my job plus finding a screen which I quite like the look of changed that. You can also see from that pic I raised the seat and lowered the pegs as per forum member Beresford.

    Haha  Very Happy

I changed the oil, cleaned the wheels, chain in the old oil, underneath and engine, and changed the tyre and it looked good, so I left the paint on top for another day! That bike is a dirty bitch!

Them crash bars where a find at Boonstra. No idea who made them. Note that I had to remove a few millimetres of metal to get them to fit the upper rear engine bolt on the left side. The one that hides in the recessed frame.
