Came off my CB two hours ago on loose tarmac on a shoddily repaired bit of road. I was doing about 55-60, low-sided and slid down the road, and I wasn't wearing my proper bike trousers (yes, I know...).

Bike is OK and I could ride it home but it needs a new indicator, new clutch lever, new gear lever, and new handlebar weight. Luckily I have spares for the first two already. The LH engine case is scraped but I'll probably leave it for the moment.

I will be making a complaint and possibly a claim to the council about the dangerous road repair. However I was not fully concentrating and had I been I could have avoided the loose stuff.

Very annoyed indeed but also feeling incredibly lucky, especially since a minibus came the other way as I stood up which I'd have hit if I'd been ten seconds later  affraid

Stay safe and stay concentrated people.

Sorry to hear that mate, hope it all heals up OK.

Definitely go for the council, alert or not, the road shouldn't have made you crash. Where was it?

    Thanks Stooby2.

It was here https://goo.gl/maps/69ERfqhdSXv and I was travelling south-west.

The very nice man in the house just there saw the whole thing happen and gave his details in case I needed him to testify that I wasn't speeding. He also helped me straighten out the gear lever (which had bent right forward in itself into a kind of coil - the bike did a 180 as I came off and slid backwards down the road). He also made me a cup of tea and was generally incredibly nice.

I'll definitely post details up if I get anywhere with the council. That bit of road is full of similar dodgy repairs that they did a month or so ago. Last time I went down there, a few weeks ago, I actually thought 'I could quite easily slide off on one of these'.

Ow Ow Ow. I feel the pain. That was exactly the same reason for my comeuppance last August. And a similar outcome - levers, bar end , indicator. It also wrecked the silencer and my jacket. Bloody annoying.

You were lucky not to hurt yourself more, I only came off at about 20mph and it really hurt for a few weeks afterward. Your leg is going to have a Technicolour set of bruises long after the bleeding heals.

"Stay safe and stay concentrated people." Yep - concentration is paramount with any vehicle, but bikes even more so. Not bloody easy to develop, sustain and remember though. ATGATT is going to get more difficult too now the weather's getting a bit warmer. And there's one of the potential problems - wearing decent gear that protects well, whilst remaining cool enough to concentrate fully.

Anyway - GWS. You'll probably be feeling it a bit more this morning, I've no doubt. But if it's any consolation you got off a lighter than I did - ditto your bike - and I was going a third that speed.

Glad to hear you're ok (well, only slighty damaged).

I fear you might not get too far with the coucil without threatening legal-type letters.  There are a number of legal firms that specialise in biker-related work; I can't say I have used any of them, but it might be worth giving one or more of them a ring.

My local council (look here - bottom of page) have a form to fill in.  I suspect most councils have something similar (I suspect that they will all be insured against road maintainance claims).

Anyway, whatever you do, keep a record of the costs and receipts for parts/work plus note down if you have to have any time off work and/or have to go to the doctor.

Also, it might be best not to say too many derisory thing about your local council on here before you know what your legal position is :)

Take care of that wound. Rinse well, then disinfect with Betadine or such, maintain daily dressing changes and check your Tetanus status.

I lost the skin off both knees years ago plus a smashed up hand and wrist. I never ride in jeans anymore i were leathers or armoured fabric jacket and throusers  i know there a pain in hole to put throusers on but if it rains  i dont need to put on rain gear. All i have to remember is in hospital bed and nurse putting iodine(blue or purple stuff into cuts in my knees) i dont do jeans on a bike now

It still amazes me how many people I see riding bikes without gloves.  I've still got the scars on my hands after a 40mph spill on my 250 Gamma in the early 90s; and I was wearing gloves!

Thanks for all the very kind words folks.

The scrape is almost totally healed now and all is well.

Here's a better pic of the original damage in case anyone needs re-reminding not to go around without proper gear on (especially out of town/above 30mph).
