Are stick coils from the cb1000 easy to fit on the cb500s and what is the benefit for the machine.

I have just acquired some from Andy C, part of the rebuild process to change to these.
If nothing else should eliminate some potential future problem areas, although the feedback suggests that they are beneficial

The good thing is that even if you don't notice any difference or they don't work you have little to loose as you can just put the original arrangement of coils/leads/etc back, especially if you use suitable connectors in the wiring that goes to the coils.
