Adjustable levers Empty Adjustable levers

Post by Zxanthion Wed 08 Feb 2012, 9:04 pm

Hi all.

Can anyone point me to where I can buy adjustable clutch/gear levers? I've been looking around all day and can't find anyone that do the CB500. There's plenty of CB599/Hornet around, but no CB500. All I can see in reference to the cb5 & adjustable levers is BMW F650 owners saying to get cb500 versions to replace theirs. confused

Would the hornet versions fit? Or is there other alternatives?

Been hunting all day and can't find anything other than standard. I'd be pulling my hair out if I had any.

Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Should have mentioned it's a '99.

Go to the Pazzo website and to their fitting guide.
Go to Honda.
They show pictures there of the various levers.
My bike is a 1996 T cb500 Brake: F18 clutch: H-626
fit mine perfectly.
Same as CB599/CB 600 Hornet 98-06
CBR600 F2 F3 F4 91-07
CB919 02-07 CBR900RR 93-99
VTX1300 03-08

I don`t say buy them from Pazzo --- a bit pricey!
I got mine from www.the2wheels.com
Outfit in Hong Kong but came in about a week and they`re great.

Excellent mate! That's exactly what I was after. It seemed weird for how common the bike is, no mention of it at all on all the sites I looked on.
Cheers.

Quite a decent selection on that site too. I'll give it a shot. I just got the black ones as I've heard horror stories of other colours fading to pink or whatever after a few months.

Glad that helps.
Yes, I think a lot of sites right off the CB500 as a humble "commuter" that no one would be interested in fettling! But we know different, don`t we.

Certainly do.

I've been modding pc's for years so that habit has kind of tranferred to the bike now.
When I got it, it had been dropped a couple of times with minor damage to things like the indicators, bar ends etc. so once they were getting
renewed I just upgraded to aftermarket stuff. Needless to say, that's
grown arms and legs and several completely unecessary things have been done now.

I've stuck a picture in my gallery as it stands atm. But I've got a few more idea's since reading this forum. Laughing

Bike`s looking good. Fork gaitors are a good functional addition. Have you lost your grab handle?
A buzzer to remind one that the indicators are on is good too.
I took mine for its MOT test yesterday ---- garage about seven miles away in sub zero temperatures; I`m thinking of fitting a screen!!!

Thanks trollface. The buzzer is a great idea and I know what you mean about
the cold. I've got quilted textured trousers with good old long johns on and I'm still feeling it.

Mikey, it's the powerbronze one but I'm really not sure about it. I think they might have sent me a GS version because I can't seem to get it to sit quite right and I've spent hours messing around with the brackets. I can't even send it back as a few days after fitting the exhaust melted a bit right on the underside. In all honesty I'm considering taking it off becuase it's become quite an annoyance.

I took the grab rail off so I could strap my cover on when I visit my Brother. Nobody's ever on the back anyway so no big deal.

Another edit for theforgotten stuff. Laughing Yeah it's just tape on the wheels.

That's a shame it doesn't fit, it looks brilliant!

I've been looking at the powerbronze one or the skidmarx one (http://www.skidmarx.co.uk/product.php?id_product=50002), skidmarx don't have a photo though AND I emailed them for one with no luck.

I do fancy it to match the bodywork I already have though...

Yeah I'm a bit pissed about it. At certain angles it doesn't look so great. Thankfully you can't see them in the photo. Laughing

I totally agree with you getting it colour coded though. You can only get black, red or white from powerbronze so I figured I'd need to get it painted for the right shade of red anyway. Me being impatient, wanted to see it right away so got the black so I could get away with it. I'm getting the tail & radiator panel done (hopefully) at the end of the month so would have done that at the same time.

I'm not even sure I'd recommend the powerbronze one after the hours spent and still not happy. With that said, I'm a pernickety bugger and things get right on my tits if it doesn't look right. Good luck if you go for it.

I just got the levers through. Very Happy Really surprised with the quality for the grand old sum of £23.51!! There wasn't even a delivery charge.

I'll try and get them fitted later and stick up some pics.

Thanks again Trollface, brilliant recommendation and anyone else looking for them, look no further.

Really hope I've got the right ones. lol

Which ones did you get? I was looking at them as well, and couldn't work out which I needed. And what's the difference between short levers / normal. Are there any advantages to short ones? ( I have very small hands).

Well I'd love to say it all went well but the brake lever is quite different to the '96 model it seems. Crying or Very sad

My lever looks like this (that's a little cup at the bottom there)....
Adjustable levers 10023723

As opposed to this...

Adjustable levers 10005227

I assumed wemoto would've had generic pics but apparently not, so later on I'll have a look and see if I can see a similar one and hope for the best. *sigh*

On a lighter note, the clutch fits fine.

Stormy, I bought the CB599/CB 600 Hornet 98-06 versions.

Gutted to hear one of the levers doesn`t fit!!
Feel a bit responsible for pointing you in that direction.
Must be due to the different master cylinders -- Brembo as opposed to Nissin on mine. I thought the high quality pictures on the Pazzo site would show up any differences.
What if you were to email the 2Wheel guy with the info you`ve just posted here and see if he can help.
Could the new lever be drilled/modified to the correct shape if the cup shape to the plunger is the only difference-- bit risky, perhaps?
If all else fails you could easily sell one or both of the levers on to to someone with an earlier CB500 with the Nissin master cylinder.
Sorry again for contributing to your present disappointment.

Don't worry about it. You only gave the info you had in good faith which will be good for people with a T.

I really should have done more homework but such is life, at least some people will learn from my mistakes on here.

The brembo cylinder was going to be my lead for a replacement but I'll get to that tomorrow. A wee bit drunk right now.

I thought about butchering this one but due to the shape, I would need to use a grinder instead of my trusty dremel which I'm far from sure of with the precicion needed to stop it wobbling.

I'll maybe tour some scrapyards looking for something using my existing lever for comparison. Possibly getting a similar, order another set for said bike then punt what I've got for the hornet.

Sorry for the drunken blab but hopefully someone can take something from it.

Oh regarding looking up the pics, I looked at loads and most seemed to just post generic pics so it was hardly anything to go on. Hence my previous post about Wemoto pics.

UPDATE:

I just received a new set through that with slight modification should do the trick. It has the little dimple for the master cylinder and all dimensions look good so far. The only part that needs modding is where it slots into the housing with the pivot bolt hole. It's a little too thick but shouldn't take too much to slim it down. I'll lose the anodizing but it'll be on the underside anyway so won't be visible.

They're designed for the CBR1100 XX Blackbird '97-'07. The originals look like this...

I'll give it a go this weekend. Fingers crossed.

good luck!

just a thought... (you might be planning to do this anyway)

If you have access to a pair of calipers you can measure the thickness of the original lever and the new one, noting the difference. You can then carefully attack the new lever with the file (or whatever you are using to remove the excess metal) and then measure again - in this way you can be sure of not going to far and removing too much... once again, sorry, if you know all this.

Just received my levers from www.the2wheels.com . Took about a week and a half to get here from Hongkong and cost 28 euros p&p included. My CB is a '96 with Nissin master cylinder/caliper , same as Trollfaces', and the levers fitted straight on - no problem. really chuft with them.

Nice one Trollface.

Also got mine today and they don't fit, as I'd already ordered them when I saw the post about different types ( my bikes 2002). So, if anyone else wants a set just shout. Also if anyone knows what will fit that I wouldn't have to fiddle about with, cos I'm not very mechanically adept, let me know. My hands are so small I desperately need adjustable levers!

Arise long dead thread!

I've been looking to change my levers to something a little shorter and if my calculations are correct these little lovelies will fit my '96:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370842680233?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I shall be ordering at the weekend, then its only the months wait for them to arrive from China.

when you get them short levers, post up what you think. I've been looking all over for cb500 short levers and can find any anywhere! And the new 2013 55 just keep popping up!

Ah haa! I applaud ye necromancer! I kept meaning to post back the result of my butchery but kept forgetting.

It didn't work out too well.  The nipple socket part was just a bit off so wasn't sure how well my brakes would have worked. I could possibly have tried them to see how it worked out but not being a perfect fit might have worked sometimes and not others so just left them off in case of failure in a real emergency.

I still have a set for the Nissin brakes spare so if anyone wants them (Mainland UK) give me a shout, I'll post them on.

I don't blame you, I'm all for a bit of bling, but not at the risk of affecting performance, especially in the braking department.

I just ordered a set, not the shorty ones above, but these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370693924410?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I ordered the short version of those instead.
