Cranky gearbox
Hi all, wonder if anyone has had this problem, my gearbox sometimes finds a false neutral between 5th & 6th. Annoyingly it seems to happen when I'm overtaking with high revs trying to gear up quick. Only happened a few times, but each time it's a bit unnerving, I have to put it down into 5th and then go up again. I assume it's not doing the gearbox any good when this happens either.
Apart from trying to be more positive with the gear lever are there any fixes for this? If it's likely to be expensive or a lot of hassle I'll just put up with it, he's a tatty old bike, but if there are any easy fixes I'll have a go.

Re: Cranky gearbox
I find gearboxes often start to act up when the oil is too old, have you changed yours recently?
Hopefully its something that simple :S

Re: Cranky gearbox
It's due a change in about 1k miles, but seems to have happened at various times since I last changed it. Maybe should get a magnetic sump plug next change, see if it's shedding metal anywhere along the line...

Re: Cranky gearbox
It is worth checking the adjustment of the clutch lever (ie. making sure that you are fully disengaging) and the chain tension - if either of these is 'wrong' then they can effect how well the gearbox works.

Seconded; if the clutch cable is too loose/tight it does weird things to the gear change.
