Green cycle boxes Empty Green cycle boxes

Post by Toutsuite Mon 12 Aug 2013, 7:31 pm

Hey folks, today a nice police lady informed me that in the near future, if I get caught sitting on the green bicycle box at traffic lights with my MOTORbike, I'll get fined 120 smackers and get three points on my license. Oh joy! I mean seriously 3 points? Like when you get caught speeding? Because it's just as bad/dangerous? Sure give the cagers 3 points when they do it, with their fat arses taking up all the space on the green box but bikers? Come ooooooon!
Grumph. And indeed harrumph...

I don't have a problem with the law being enforced (annoying as it is); I do have a problem with councils using it as a money-making exercise!

In reality it makes sense that the 'cycle-box' is used for pedal-cycles and motorcycles - however this kind of joined-up thinking is usually beyond most people that make and most people that enforce laws.

Totally agree with you. And it totally gets my goat that councils will not only fleece me, they'll stick three points on my licence.

There's also the very serious issue of safety. Not being allowed to get to the front at the lights will mean queues of bikes in between car lanes. And we all know want twunts cagers can be at the lights, trying to race you, or veering left or right. Maybe we should all write to Boris!

Hmm, does seem a bit tight to keep motorbikers out of the boxes. That said on a motorbike you take up much more room than a bicycle, and certainly in Cambridge at rush hour the bike box is barely large enough for all the cyclists, let alone motorbikers. I reckon that on the roads we all have to defer to the next machine down in the "food chain" - so we hope drivers will look out for us, we look out for cyclists, and when on a bicycle we shouldn't go bombing down the pavement annoying pedestrians.
