Wiring loom
My poor old, beat up CB is still slowly undergoing the streetfighter process... a long, dragged out and often uneventful process but its happening none the less!!
My next purchase is going to be of twin "Dominator" headlights (smaller version of the speed triple's headlights) and for that, i will be needing to relocate that mess of wires honda call a wiring loom!
Any idea's for hiding spots? I am a master of the soldering iron so any idea's you have, no matter how insane could probably be done with the right re-wire but also bearing in mind i will most likely be getting new clocks and all wires must be accessible for future maintenance.
Hopefully the engine will be rebuilt this sunday but am not holding my breath!
Thanks guys.
Alex

Re: Wiring loom
Like the idea of the streetfighter conversion, but if I could possibly suggest that the Dominator headlight units might not be a good idea?
Mate of mine fitted these to his Suzuki, and I had a test trip on it at night. Wasn't impressed with them at all, as they had the light output of a glow-worm's bottie. Standard headlight was so much better.
OK, this was a year or so back, and the light units may well have been improved since then, but I can only tell as I found.
Having said that, they did look good on the bike.

Re: Wiring loom
Streetfighters are all about form over function, Looks are everything!
The headlights i am getting are HID so should be pretty good.
Dave, I have looked at under the tank but was a little worried about heat as it would be pretty much sitting on the rocker cover.
I was thinking about modifying the airbox to include a compartment for the loom but not sure if i can with my shiney new K&N!

Re: Wiring loom
Just a thought Alex.
Are you keeping the tank side cowlings on in your conversion? If so, I've managed to hide a multitude of stuff behind them, and it's out of range of the cylinder head heat (that's where the power supply for my sat-nav lives very happily)
Thanks for the info about the HID option for those lights BTW. mmmm..... might start on a streetfighter myself....

Re: Wiring loom
Thats not a bad shout, i was thinking of having the tank cowls but makng my own ones out of builders foam and fibre glass (after reading about it in streetfighters!) so it could be a neat little hiding spot...
You should go for the fighter conversion, I am loving and hating it at the same time as just about every nut and bolt has become one with the engine!
the CB5 is a good bike to fighter i thought seeing as you see all these GSXR1000 fighters that still can't go over 130mph because they stripped it down! My mate has a speed triple and loves it up to 130mph when his helmet is trying its best to detach his head from his shoulders!
Although i will have to do my best at weight saving seeing as the CB is 170kg and the gixxer is 166kg as standard!
