Instrument clock

Here we are. A cheap chinese ebay watch and some scrap for a bracket.

thats better than my effort mate,i have a cheap casio on velcro in the middle of the rev counter !!!!!!!!!

My CB also rocks an old casio but on the brake fluid reservoir!

My CB also wears an old Casio on a redundant hotgrips controller mount. I've found that an analogue dial is easier to read in low light.

In general, analogue instruments are preferable for quick reading. I was once given this example:

You are sitting at the console of a nuclear powerplant. In front of you, there are 147 instruments showing temperatures, pressures and whatnot. Suddenly the alarm goes off. Find the cause - you have 10 seconds.

It's perfectly possible. The smart people who installed the giant dashboard made sure that all gauges are analogue and that all dials are vertical under normal operating conditions.

Your task has just been reduced to finding the one dial that's leaning to one side. Easy.

Now, exchange the clocks with digital readouts (numbers telling you exact sensordata) and rethink the scenario...


This is why revcounters are made with dials. Besides hearing the engine, you will - using peripheral vision - see when the needle points horizontally right and know it's time to upshift

Back on topic. Here's my - analogue - clock arrangement:

Just ordered one of these from China.  It should fit to the handlebar, right in the middle, below the key.

Unfortunately being from China, if it doesn't fly off when going over 60mph it will probably tell you the wrong time.

Now, now - don't be like that.  I've had some "weally" good stuff from China, that's lasted "werry well"..!

Nothing against the Chinese but they undoubtedly produce a large assortment of crap which then gets shipped over to the UK.

I don't think it matters (too much) if you pay the correct (low) price...

What really annoys me is supposedly 'reputable' companies (in this country and other places) passing off crap (quite possibly made in China or similar low-wage/low-quality places) as 'proper' items and
charging you the full-whack price for it.

At least if you know where it is coming from and don't pay too much you know where you stand.

That is very true and I've seen that quite a lot with Parts claiming to be genuine when actually they are genuine fakes.

I bought bike-specific clocks from Motrax and Oxford and they both died within weeks. Present clock is a £6.99 (with free p&p) analogue-faced watch from Casio that I ground the straps off. It's stated as being 'shower proof', but is still working fine after 10 months.

Here's my Chinese one..

There's a grub screw that tightens onto the handlebar, against the rubber protector they provide.

You then insert the clock face - it's a tight fit, but it does go in - just.   I took the pics before I straightened the face, but you get the idea.

I think it's good.  Much cheaper than the Oxford one.

 

They they say it is, but time will tell.....!

The strut to the right supports the Kappa screen.

Oxford are a bunch of expensive wankers,i emailed them about 6 months ago complaining about a bike cover i bought and am yet to receive a reply,
