Stainless Downpipes Empty Stainless Downpipes

Post by hs126783 Mon 03 Mar 2014, 8:28 am

I am looking to replace the standard downpipes with S/S. There seem to be 3 suppliers with them readily available, Delkevic, Motad and Sandy Bike Spares - any recommendations welcome, cheers.

I am thinking of doing the same and to include the exhaust.  Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Thats 3 of us considering upgrading the exhaust.

I have read the motad downpipes are good but the end can has been known to rot.

The complete system from Sandy on ebay looks tempting.

Anyones with anyexperience of this?

I read on the racing cb500 forum that Simmi also do stainless downpipes to order, no idea of cost though. http://www.simmiperformance.co.uk/
I wonder whose is the best for the money? Would be nice to see a comparison as they are not cheap.

I'm interested too!

Item #1 (out of a total of 1 items) on my todo-list is a Fuel can. Stainless downpipes would become #2 on that list.

But what downpipe brand to choose?

I have a Simmi end can, which looks and sounds good - had to make an extension for the centrestand bracket so the stand contacted the bracket. I spoke to Simmi about downpipes but the cost from them was double that of any of the others. Regarding Motad cans, they used to be chrome plated steel but are now stainless so rot shouldn't be an issue - they are a bit "plain Jane" looking compared to Fuel/Simmi/Delekevic though.

The motad can is designed to be not interesting - it is supposed to as similar as possible to stock but made of stainless.

I've heard bad things about Sandy Bike Spares from people on the Blackbird forum. Crap, restrictive welding and misalignment.

Stainless Downpipes Empty Re: Stainless Downpipes

A friend of mine had some stainless pipes on his CB5, but they had no bracket to attach to the frame. They looked very much like the Sandy ones.

If you are considering the Sandy ones make sure you check. These downpipes were shorter than the standard ones, so made finding a link pipe tricky.

I have stainless pipes on mine, but I don't know who made them, I think they may be Motad. I reckon the Motad and Delevik ones are pretty much the same as the originals, making life a lot easier when it comes to end cans.

I've had a standard exhaust, a motad and a Delekevik end can on my downpipes and they all fitted perfectly.

Looks like it's between Motad and Delkevic then, whichever's cheapest!

Many thanks for the useful information.  I am tempted to go for the Delkevic downpipes and exhaust which are both offered with free delivery on ebay for a total of £280.

I have spoken to Jeff at Simmi, now that he doesnt make downpipes any more, he would use Delkevic on his own end cans.

Good choice, I've got a Delkevik end can on my bike.

I'm not sure if it adds any power, but its half the weight and considerably better looking than the standard or the Motad end cans I've had,

Plus the Motad started to rot near to the join with the downpipes, and because it is a single unit rather than a can and link pipe you can't replce just the part that goes.

At least with the Delkevik system you can replace parts, use different downpipes and end cans in the future.
