New rear tyre..................
I need a new rear tyre, as the Avon Roadrider is about 5 microns away from the wear bars. I bought the bike a few months ago with "almost new tyres fitted" and have worn through the rear tyre already. What I need to know is what make of tyre to fit. The Avon's are terrible in the wet and cold, and as I live in the North East of Scotland it is usually wet and cold most of the time. I would like a tyre that is grippy in the wet and cold, which the Avon isn't (but then it is good when the weather is behaving itself). I am not too worried if they wear more rapidly as long as they grip, already had a slow speed spill due to the non grip of the Avon and the rear brake momentarily locking up, in the rain. My FZR has Metzeler's which I found were very good but not too sure about the Honda. I would like readily available tyres as well and have to hunt for Bridgestones BT45 (which seems to be a firm favourite on this site)

Before I switched to radial tyres, I used Pirelli Demon Sport tyres.
Never let me down come rain or shine, working as a courier wear rate was important too and these would last around the 9-10k mark.
I would strongly recommend them

I've only ever run bt45's so don't have any comparison but have always found them grippy enough.
They do have a tendency to square off a bit and from what I've read (on here mainly) they wear quicker than harder compound tyres, but grip v longevety will always be a trade off. The higher pressures Bridgestone recommend help offset this a bit as the tyres run a bit cooler.

I firmly believe that the dunlop d103, (cheap ebay deal a few months back) has outperformed the bt45 in every way. Not sure how many miles I've racked up with them now as I forgot to take note of the mileage so I can't account for durability but all seems well so far. Probable next stop - diablo rosso 2's.

I have used a set of BT45's which are very good in both wet and dry, however they to wear off quite fast, but you already know that.
Now I'm on a set of Dunlop GT501's which in my opinion are better than BT45's, however I cannot advise on longevity, as I only installed them a few months ago. I also went one size up on the rear- using 140 instead of 130 which feels more solid on the road. In general the GT501 feels like it has a bit more grip than BT45, but this is only my opinion- don't want to upset anybody here

I have the Dunlop D103's too. Amazing tyres. Totally transformed the bike.
