Re: 150 rear tyre - is it possible?
Hi,
I run bt 090's on mine, ex race scrubs and these are 140 rear's. They work fine, very grippy and make the bike quite fast handling due to the steep profile. I change them in pairs.
IMO, not worth going 150 rear, probably an expensive way of buggering up the handling. Bt45 130's are the way to go but 140 should fit and iirc its been done, got a thumbs up on the old forum.

Nice. Are you satisfied with 090's? For how long you ride them before you change?

Hi,
yep, v pleased, the bike goes where I point it, the tyres last 2000m esp if I do some touring. They do square off but as I do a lot of back roads riding this isn't a major problem. As soon as the wear indicators get to the top, its time to change anyway.

Unfortunately, BT 45 is not available in Croatia (order only) and 090 is 30% expensive than Metzeler, so I'll keep Metzeler LaserTec as my choice... I'm just not sure for rear tyre dimension, 130 or 140.
Now I'd like to try wider tyre... 140 or even 150 if it is possible... we'll see...

Er, I`d stay well clear of fitting a tyre two sizes up if i were you, one is arguably risky, two is plain foolish, no offence.
If your fitting a 150 on a rim designed for a 130 the sidewalls have to deform alot more to seal making them the incorrect angle to the profile, this leads to vastly higher stress levels on the sidewalls, if you corner particully hard at full lean it might be your last time.
Sorry to sound dramatic, i just don`t think its worth the risk, and for what point, the handling will be sharper on a 130 ( ask anybody on a 1 litre bike who has been humbled by a 125 or 250 on a trackday, ) extra grip will be neglidgable, wider tyre but not alot if any more contact area, so why, fashion?..

Non taken. You're right. Yesterday I argue with one "smart" fellow ho did that (put 150) and try to convince me that it is better.
I'll keep 130. After all, it's cheaper ;-) ...

hello spinner
My apologies, I did not mean to sound like I was preaching!
I know a few guys who have experimented with tyres/rims for trackdays etc, sometimes with`alarming` results..
cheaper is allways good... ...if you can find the words gripier and longer lasting to go with cheaper then I`ll have some..
for what its worth, I run 190`s on my Daytona ( standard size) and the CB500 would P*ss all over it in the tight and twisties, only at higher speeds and lean angles does the Daytona come into its own, and that`s as much to do with weight/steering/frame geometry rather than tyres I think.
have fun.....H
