fuel tap
hi all i have a r reg 98 cb500 that has sprung a leak on the fuel tap i have tried replacing it with a 2nd hand tap and that still leaked it look as if the leak is coming from where the plate is riveted together on tap side has any one else had this issue if so any ideas how too fix it, as a new tap from honda will cost £217 :0.

If it still leaked after you have swapped the tap then the tap probably isn't the problem or both taps you have are leaky.
Have you looked at the diagram here:

I wander if the O-ring (no 4 in the diagram) needs replacing or might just be non-existant, causing your tank to leak and then drip down onto the tap.
Have you looked at the problem with the tank off the bike? If you get it higher up (on a workmate or similar) then you might well be able to see underneath with a torch and see where the petrol is coming from.
As you can see from the diagram (I think) there are four screws in the back of the tap, if the petrol appears to be coming from inside the tap it might be worth taking them out and having a look.
While you are there you could renew the diaphragm and some other bits with one of these kits:
