Solved Pannier rack wanted

Post by Jameshambleton Tue 04 Nov 2014, 5:39 pm

I'm looking for a pannier rack for my CB500 1997 and would prefer to buy one that is a "tubular frame" type rather than the givi n150 type.

Does anyone have one for sale or know where I could buy one.
Many thanks.

Hi- Is it a pannier rack or just a top box rack you require. I have a tubular Rentec top box rack if that is what you want. Regards Dave

Hi,

I'm after a rear rack. Is a topbox rack different from the usual rentec rear rack?

The Renntec ones generally use the grab rail mounting points and I'm pretty sure you lose the grab rail. You can just about get a Givi plate onto them but you need to make a bracket up.

Givi racks replace the side rails (where the indicators mount to) and mean you can fit a wide range of Givi plates and boxes. The indicators mount through the Gibi bars and you keep the grab rail.

Thanks Stooby, that's very helpful.

I'm 100% sure you lose the grab rail when fitting a renntec rack.

Alot of topbox manufacturers incuding givi, kappa etc make universal plates that'll have the clamps to go on. You may wish to cut off the grab handle bit of the renntec rack so you can mount the plate further forward.

Another option is a krauser rack & side arms that fits their k4 & k5 boxes though they're certainly not a cheap way to go.

You loose the standard grab rail (the silver thing on the top) when you mount a renntec rack - the rack has a bit of a grab rail built in (see here) but I'm not sure how good it is (never used one).

When you install the Givi monorack monunting rails you loose the two grab handles (the black ones that that the indicators usually mount on) as the rails mount insead of the handles.

So either way you loose something.

Thanks for all the info guys. Blimey! They are quite pricey those Renntec racks. Last time I bought a new one it was only about 30 quid.........mind you that was for a CX back in 1981. Ha!

So I'm assuming then that the one Dave is talking about back in the second post will be a tubular Rentec rear rack with a fitting for a top box? If it is Dave, I'm interested in the rack.

I think Renntec have realised that they are onto a Good Thing(tm), plus I suspect there has been a wee bit of inflation since 1981!

I would guess so; if you are interested I would drop him a PM...
