CB500 oil leaking Empty CB500 oil leaking

    Post by needham1114 Mon 09 Feb 2015, 3:14 am

Just fired up the 73 cb500 after rebuilding almost everything.
Now while running the oil appears to be leaking around the head. Has anyone experienced this and what are the possible fixes??

I have one spot on the front leaking and one near the LR of the head.

This isn't my first rebuild. But my first one to leak like this.

    Oh dear.

From my experience of these things, I would immediately check that you have the best gasket set available (some of those aftermarket ones are a bit poor), that the mating surfaces of the barrel and head are spotlessly clean and that the head hasn't warped (it might need grinding!).

I would also suggest that you asked here: http://forums.sohc4.net/ (assuming you have a 4 not a twin).

This forum is for the 1993 onwards, water cooled CB500 parallel twin, not the earlier one.

    Good luck!
