brembo brake bracket
hi,
I've got the caliper removed from the bracket but when I mount up the bracket only its so close to the disc its hitting the mounting bolts?
any ideas or anyone had this before?
I've got the mudguard and bracket in but could it be the rotation of the fork leg?
Dan

That's a weird one! With the wheel fitted the forks have to be pointing the right way so it can't be that. Can you post a photo?

I couldn't even get the bracket in at this point - since then I've replaced the front disc as there was a slight wobble in it. ill get a better pic tonight

It looks as though something's not square, yes another photo would be good

Re: brembo brake bracket
might be because in that pic the top bolt was in but I coudint get the bottom in far enough in to slide behind the mount..... I'll take a new pic with the bracket in place tonight
after the disc was changed I can mount it all the way just hits the bolt head

May be a stupid thing to say but are you sure you've got the bracket on the correct side of the lugs? I once spent ages scratching my head about this before I realised I was trying to put it in front of them rather than behind them.
Could also be the rotation of the fork leg as you say, although that should have been taken care of when you installed the front wheel.

Re: brembo brake bracket
good thoughts and I had to think about it but if I were putting the bracket on the other side it wouldn't be hitting the disc
made sure it was going on the inside of the fork, behind the lugs with the 'b' logo outward between the two lugs

Re: brembo brake bracket
Have you definitely got the spacer in there on that side from when you had the front wheel out?
Try also slightly loosening the top and bottom yoke clamp bolts (not so much that the forks can slide in them) and pump the front forks a few times.

...I guess that might be tricky without the front brake on there though!

Re: brembo brake bracket
I don't want to cause anyone an undue pain in the butt but how long is the spacer on the left side of the wheel? Even just the exposed length could be handy to check?

Re: brembo brake bracket
All very odd.
Just went and had a look at my bike and there isn't *much* clearance there, so I reckon any offset (paint, coating etc) could cause a problem, but I bet you've sorted that out already, so that probably isn't it.
Just for reference, here is a picture of how grotty my bike is (in the work car park):

the above message was to you ET, your post disappeared then came back.
I did mask off allot but not as much as I did on the rear one so habe sanded some of the bracket back (after my pic).

Sorry; I adjusted my post : I had put in an irrelevant picture... hence the post appeared, disappeared and re-appeared again.
Hope the sanding has solved it...

Re: brembo brake bracket
it didn't which is why I'm posting today I just neglected to take a new picture.
have some new bolts on order.... I painted my old ones as they were grotty so maybe with out the paint on the bolts it will be ok, that and I'll give the disc mount faces yet another rub.
any chance someone could check the spacer width?

Re: brembo brake bracket
superb, thanks....... good idea about pumping the forks although not sure ill do it with the yokes undone or even loose my face is far too handsome to thrust a stanchion into it

Re: brembo brake bracket
By loose I mean only enough for them to twist fractionally, not enough to slide through the yokes. You could do it with the front tyre against a wall.

Re: brembo brake bracket
shouldn't need to loosen the yokes to twist the lower leg and i dont think twisting the stanchion should do much?

Re: brembo brake bracket
so, I've tapped out all the threads and replaced all of the disc mount bolts and i've replaced the disc. I've also rubbed off all the paint on the mounting surfaces and where the disc bolt passes the bracket and its still grazing.
its not marking the bolts but you can hear it - and see it!
only other thing to try is another bracket which I have on order from fleabay
heeeeeelp!!!!

no comment
as I said to my wife that if it was a computer it would be classified as user error
I'd masked the mounting surfaces while spraying with various bolts and washers and one washer managed to glue itself by means of a seemless paint finish and didn't realise it was still there till we compared bracket thicknesses to 'another forum members' CB
but then you knew this john
b@stard.
thanks again mate
