All I've done is change the 'plugs to NGK iridium and put a K&N air filter in it. That and oil & filter every 4k.

I think he was just amused at you asking the question, not laughing at you.
Anyway, I think quite a lot of people 'rack up the miles' by just riding to work. If you work 10 miles away from your house and ride to work 48 weeks of the year that's 4800 miles a year before you've ridden anywhere at the weekend.
Now, a lot of people commute more than 10 miles to get to work...

Yep, easy to ride, easy to use bike with a topbox = take it anywhere ! This week : allotments, shopping, library, shooting recce, Sunday village ride, tomorrow, diy fitting new master cylinder internals.
Please, no Where do you go on your bike post".

Re: high milers
I tend to find myself coming at this from the opposite angle - I don't understand it when you hear about people who do only 1000 miles or so in a year on their bike, CB500 or otherwise. However I'm not yet married with children!
Machines are made to be used. I ride mine as much as I have time/money/girlfriend tolerance for. In the last seven years I've covered 140,000 miles, 120k on my first CB5 and 20k in the last year on my 'new' one. I've yet to work out how much this has totalled in petrol...

I hear ya. I'd rather buy a bike that's been ridden and maintained than a garage queen that's sat idle and hiding potential issues.

Re: high milers
I realised earlier that, now my bike's at 56,000 miles, I have done 1/4 of the bike's 18 years of distance in the last 16 months. That means I'm doing 13-14 times the average mileage of the previous 4 owners!
