longer side stand
I've always thought that the CB500 leaned quite far over on the side stand (anyone else?) - I was curious if anyone knew of another Honda one that will fit and is a bit longer?

I use one from a CBR400rr(NC29) longer, stronger and looks much better.

Not sure, I can only go on the one I use which is the NC29.
This is also known as the Gullarm model.

The NC29's all have the RR suffix and are pretty much physically the same throughout their production run (1990-98ish). There were subtle changes to the suspension, gearbox, carbs and the loom on later (94 on) bikes, but I'm pretty sure all their side stands are the same.

Re: longer side stand
Ask the seller for the end to end measurement & compare it with ANDYC's?

Re: longer side stand
thanks, at 15 posted I figured it would be worth a punt so went ahead and ordered it.
If its more upright and the CB adapter for my Abba stand works out I'm going to go ahead and remove the main stand.

Re: longer side stand
The sdide stand length has always confused me a bit. It's lmost as if the bike was designed with lower profile tyres in mind. Having the shocks jacked up to the max helps a bit but it's still a bit 'tilty'.

Re: longer side stand
well this arrived today but there appears to be a bend in it? (does it show in the pic as much as in the flesh?)
I'm pretty sure that isn't right but can you confirm?
Dan

Re: longer side stand
I messaged the seller reporting that it's bent - he replied telling me that he'll send another and it's no problem as it was bent before they sent it.
right.
well I guess that makes it ok then?!

Yep, that's definitely not right. There's some really weird sellers on eBay, isn't there?

Re: longer side stand
ok, i mis-read the message apparently he believes it was straight when it was sent..... I can only assume my subconscious realised how ludicrous it is for a solid metal stand wrapped in many many many layers of bubble wrap could have accidentally got bent in transit and reverted to a more logical statement.

It looks tapered from the pics. What's the view like with the ruler on the other side?

other side is fine, I mounted it up in a vice which makes it more noticeable and yes it does taper.
yup..... im a picky bugger lol
I mailed the seller back who said sent both back for a refund, bet he'll argue the point when I say I'm not paying for postage.
could get it heated and straightened without loosing strength? to be fair it is only slightly out but if I'm going to get it shot blasted and powder coated I need it to be worth the investment in it.

Perhaps they all bend under the weight of the bike?

That or it's designed that way. Ideally you'd want to compare it with a brand new one to find out which.
As for heating it causing it to lose strength, it's steel so would just need heat treating properly to keep or possibly improve it dependant on the grade of steel used.
It's also possible the bend happened when the foot peg got welded on during manufacture. If you watch this vid of a katana being made, around 4:30 you'll see the curve being put in just by the quenching process!

Re: longer side stand
thanks, I've messaged the seller to see if I can reclaim some (of the not allot) that I spent to cover the pain in the butt and get it straightened then powder coated.
