Possible charging solution
Afternoon all,
Recently had a bit of trouble with a flat battery. After doing the usual checks had a look at the rectifier/regulator. Upon removal of said item discovered a very corroded connector in the terminal block. A very gentle pull and it came apart.
So I assume the connection was so poor the charge was not going back to the battery.
Ok, says I, just stick a new one on and we'll be good to go.
That was when I discovered whilst the top three connectors are 6 mm (standard size) the bottom ywo are 8 mm. Not a problem you say but most connectors are 9 mm. Halfords, Maplins, auto electricians all stock 6 and 9 mm connectors but not 8mm. Auto electrician chappy suggested "flag" terminals usually found on car headlights. 8mm but the terminal comes out sideways. Chap sold me 3 connectors so I was able to cut the sideways part off and attach another piece cut off one of the other terminals on to the "arm" that was left.
Look at the picture and the last sentence might make sense.
Anyway, connected it all up then discovered the new terminal would not fit the block. Had to cut the side out of the terminal block, shove that on then push the new connector on in the space that was left. A healthy smear of silicon grease on the terminals to protect from corrosion and job's a good un. Been a week now and all seems well.
Hope this helps anyone who has/had similar problems.
