Airbox screw problem
So I finally got the old oil filter off. I figured the next job would be to change the Air filter. Undid 2 of 3 screws no problem. Couldn't use a socket on the last one though, as its the one next to the frame. So I used an 8mm spanner on it instead. This seemed to be ok, but it turns out that the screw is just going round and round, and isn't coming out anytime soon.
How am I going to get this out, short of breaking the air filter cover and forcing it out with pliers or something?
Cheers,
Stax.

Re: Airbox screw problem
I had an epic struggle on all 3 of the bolts on mine after they'd rusted in to the captive nut inside the air filter casing. As you say, the bolts just kept on turning.
Now comes the fun bit. On mine the blasted things seem to have been made out of tool grade steel, so no drilling out (Discovered this after blunting 2 high speed steel drills). Why, oh WHY fit these to a plastic case?Talk about overkill.....
In the end took an angle grinder to the bolts (very carefully I might add) and this heated them up sufficiently so that the heat travelled to the captive nuts, melted the surrounding plastic, thus enabling the whole shebang to be withdrawn.
Hey, guess what? the self tapping screws now fitted as replacements work even better and can be removed with a low-tech screwdriver

Re: Airbox screw problem
I had the same problem with my bike, just bought it and was giving it a service, however it was the bottom one thats just spinning. I managed to bend the plastic cover downwards, get he old filter out and replace with the new filter tho. Dont kno if you can do that with the right one but worth a go as the plastic has plenty of flex in it.

Possible solution
I have got the same problem and what I plan to do is remove the complete filter assy and then run a small drill into the side of the filter box and insert a small pk screw to stop the brass insert from rotating. Has anyone a better idea that doesn't involve such a major strip down (fairing, lights, tank carbs etc)
