1996 CB 500
1996 Honda CB500, 80k miles, MOT 27th November 2016. The bike mechanically is in reasonable condition but cosmetically it's a little rough.
Good Points
- New fork seals and new fork stanchions as the old ones had pitted.
- New rear tyre approximately 500 miles ago
- New stainless steel fuel exhaust can with removable baffles.
- New neutral switch
- Carbs recently stripped, cleaned and rebuilt
- Top box
- 9 months MOT
Bad Points
- Visually not good, most panels are either scraped or cracked. The fuel tank had lots of chips in the paint so as a temporary repair I touched them in with grey primer to prevent rust. I had intended to repaint the whole tank but I haven't got around to it.
- The clutch is starting to slip under full throttle above 8000rpm. Below this the clutch is fine.
- When cold the clutch rattles.
- The front mud guard has been repainted black but its not a very good job.
- The lock on the top box is broken (the key snapped in it). It still opens and closes securely but won't lock.
- The rear brake can be heard squeaking sometimes at low speed. I suspect that the rear disk could be slightly warped.
-The chain and sprocket could do with replacing in the near future.
