Speedo cable - or drive maybe?
Heard this strange, fairly loud, clicking sound coming from the front of the bike and then noticed the speedometer had stopped working. Cable is only in a year ago, 6k miles. Disconnected it at the wheel and when spinning the inner, you can clearly hear it turning at the clock end. (I didn't want to pull it all the way out at this stage as it's a nightmare to get it back into the clock).
Before I start taking this apart (S model) has anone had the experience of the speedo drive unit failing on these bikes? I'm just thinking a new cable should't snap so soon and, when it happened last time, there was no audible warning - it just broke at the bottom end.

Use a drill on the end of the cable and see if the speedo registers anything - if it does you know it's not the cable or speedo.

My speedo drive broke, there is a little metal pin (looks like the head on a flat head screwdriver) and mine had snapped but the speedo sometimes worked and others it didn't it was strange, I replaced mine anyway.

Which replacement cable did you fit? I fitted one of the slinky glide cables from wemoto, its about 2 inches shorter than the oem cable, and snapped after about 3k miles.

Yip, it's Wemoto.
Haven't had time to investigate it fully yet but if I do need another replacement I'll go oem. Couldn't be bothered with the hassle as it's a pain with the S model fairing

Re: Speedo cable - or drive maybe?
Got an oem cable from Wemoto today and tried fitting it tonight after work, without removing the fairing. No joy.
The end that fits to the speedometer is a different design to the slinky glide cable I fitted previously and is just impossible to attach insitu. So this time, the fairing has to come off - which means getting indicators off first.
Question:
how are you meant to get at the indicator cable conections to disconnect/reconnect? - space is so tight in there I can't get hands on them! Might be able to get a finger in there & pull them apart by brute force but it's getting them reconnected again will be the problem. Anyone?
Jesus I hate it when this shit happens......

There are little bullet type connectors on the indicators that should pull apart easily. Mine require no effort. You should be able to swap the new cable in without removing the fairing though. I had to do mine at the roadside once since it worked lose and it look about 2 minutes. If you are struggling maybe the cause of the cable failure is preventing it from being easy. There might be a clue there somewhere

Got it sorted, indicators & fairing off, cable in. Bit of faffing with the fairing getting it on again but there was no way that cable was gonna fit to the clock without stripping her.
Then plugged back tyre after picking up a wood screw on this morning's run.
