Rattling cam chain tensioner
I got a cb 500 s yesterday left up for 6yrs never started... so it was going yesterday, today i did oil filter change..... a rattle came into engine it comes and goes and i think its rattle from cam chain....maybe years of being left up...not started.... so is it handy enough to take out tensioner clean it put it back in....?

Yes, it's very easy. Haynes shows how to make a key to wind back the tension prior to removal and refitting.
That said, most people use a small screwdriver.
Once it's out, it's easy to lubricate and see how it's working.
Obviously, don't start the engine when it's out!

Out of interest, has everybody been using genuine Honda replacements when the need arises. That seems to be the only thing I can find but it is quite hefty at £90 from lings. I would consider changing it as a part of routine maintenance on my high milage bike but not at that price.

Yes, I used a real Honda one. Are there non-OEM ones available? I didn't think there was.
TBH - would you want to chance a dodgy one - if it fails catastrophically then your engine is toast!

Been searching and searching for a manual tensioner or different make and can confirm there isn't much around! Had to pay £80 for one from David Silver spares

You did well m50 honda in dublin , ireland want 150euro for one
I had cbr 600f one time it had a non standard camchain tensioner... i thing it was a manual camchain tensioner...think it was a ape?
