finally getting a cb500!(update)
Firstly i'd like to say hello as this is my first post.
I've just passed my bike test and am getting a 2001 cb500 on sunday that has been garaged for a year or two,I would really appreciate any advice on what i should do to it to get it running and ready for an mot.
I am going to have a go at the basics if possible.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome in and congrats on 1 - passing your bike test and 2 on buying a CB500.
Are you getting it (or is it already) restricted to 33bhp, or are you of an age whereby you do not need it to be restricted?

Welcome to the club and Hondas reliable middleweight CB500. Athough when I was in my teens a 500 was a big bike. The 500 is all you need for commuting touring or whatever. It's bulletproof, lightweight easy riding and best of all it's economical. I've had them all. VFR's (drinks perol!) Rocket 3's, XS850/750/650's! You wont go far wrong with a CB500, although the GS500 is on a par. I've had one and my son has one. a great ride & great on petrol too! Stick your bandits & others, only for the showoffs!
Best wishes, OBG.

GS500 is giving up 10+BHP on the CB mind and bulid quality is dire. The point a GS wins is with the rear suspension stick an SV650 unit on the back and it transforms it. Honda is a far better bike all round though!

i've picked it up knowing it needed a bit of work to get it going, drained the old petrol and going to spend a bit of time over the easter weekend doing a bit to it.
this may seem like a stupid question but does anyone know the way the fuel switch goes for the petrol to be on as i can't see any markings!
